Ever driven through Oklahoma? That's all it is now. Take I-40 out of Ft Smith, Arkansas and as soon as you cross the border you immediately run into the "Entering [insert tribe] Nation" signs. When you pass a "Leaving [insert tribe] Nation" you immediately run into another "Entering [insert tribe] Nation" sign. And almost all of them, if not all of them, have a casino or two, or three. If you see a tall building on the prairie, it's a casino. Billboard after billboard advertising casinos.

They also get to use Gov't vehicles. Last time I was in Lawton, Oklahoma, I was surprised by the sheer number of US Government supplied mini-vans that are assigned to the various tribes. If you see an 8-passenger minivan at a McDonalds with 20 native Americans spilling out of it, it will have a US Gov't Indian Tribe license plate.

On I-40 west bound just west of Arkansas border. You see a casino sign every few miles.

Just about in the center. And yes, the Drummond Ranch is one of the largest holdings in the nation.

Drummond Ranch

So, how big is the Pioneer Woman's ranch? We know you've been waiting, so here's the answer: At a whopping 433,000 acres, Ree's cattle ranch in Pawhuska Oklahoma is the 17th largest privately owned ranch in the country.

Pretty amazing

Yep. I'm familiar with OK.

But, as a thought experiment....
How legitimate is it to have one independent "Nation" inside of another independent "Nation"?
And if they are truly a "Nation" why do they continue to get subsidized by those of us who are not part of their "Nation"??
Can we make California a "Nation"?
Calexit?

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Apparently at last count, Oklahoma has 113 indian casinos. And has more indian gaming machines than any other state.

This decision will surely generate an entire genre of sovereign citizen YouTube videos explaining the implications of some obscure treaty that will inevitably be interpreted to mean that you don’t need car insurance.

You should see all the Texas license plated cars in the Winstar casino parking lot at exit 1 on I-35N just after crossing the Red River and entering into Oklahoma. Must be thousands and thousands of them.

In fact, if you are driving North on I-35 and cross into Oklahoma you'll see a big long backlog of vehicles trying to get down the exit ramp from I-35 onto and down the road to the WinStar casino. Crazy.

This is especially true on Friday and Saturday nights and any Holiday.

It's just insane how many vehicles are there and the people are just shoveling their money out to the casino.

In all fairness, the WinStar does have a LOT of famous music acts and other entertainers on a regular basis, although not nearly as much with this Covid stuff going on.

I've always wondered how much cash they take in, it's a HUGE amount, but those figures are, I think, highly secret.

As an aside, FWIW, Terry Bradshaw, the NFL player and TV commentator, lives fulltime as his residence on a just ranch just a couple miles straight west of the WinStar, the other side of I-35. Yeah, I know, Crazy that Terry Bradshaw lives there, but he seems to love ranching and raising cattle, horses, etc. Even has a Youtube channel where he does a lot of broadcasts from his home.

The Winstar is barely not in North Dallas / Denton.

Almost no one Goes To Oklahoma. They go to Winstar, which happens to be across the line.

I don't even understand why people gamble.

They are in the math business. One out of twenty leaves the casino with more money than they came in with. There are quite a few texts on gambling addiction if you are interested. I live in an area that has had casino gambling since 1992, and illegal gambling going back to the 1940s. At that time the Mob ran the show, now it is corporations.

I didn't mean to be flippant. I should say, "I don't understand the gambling addiction".

I understand the business model, how they make money.

If that's your kind of entertainment, then by all means, gamble away. I spend money on things I'm sure other people would find indulgent.

Just don't think I have the gene, or the disposition, to enjoy giving my money away, the smoke, the stress, the overwhelming sensory stimulus.

I'm no attorney, but the way I read this they won't be punishing him. All the ruling says is that McGirt needs to be prosecuted in Federal Court. The State of Oklahoma does not have jurisdiction to prosecute him in state court.

The way I read this is that McGirt will now be charged and prosecuted in a federal court. My guess is that the Federal sentencing guidelines are lower than the State guidelines for the offenses he is charged with.

Since it is a different venue, it is not double-jeopardy. So the Feds are free to prosecute him.

^^^^ Come to think of it, whenever I've been on tribal land, such as a casino, I see police vehicles marked "Federal Police" as well some tribal cop cars, which are usually pretty crappy looking.

I'm with both of you.

I confess that when a tour has taken me into a casino I will waste a couple of Dollars worth of quarters in the "push" machine--I love to watch it work.

It's really annoying. The white trash that just just hand their cash over to the NDNs.

These tribes were DEFEATED, that's why they were sent to this god forsaken hell hole. And they're not native to Oklahoma either, they're all eastern tribes. Seminole Nation? Go back to Florida...
