BMW MIGHT have listened to their customers....daughter has 2018 X1 with the auto-stop as 'always on', she has to push the disable button each time she starts the car. I have a 2019 X1 where IF I want to enable the auto-stop I need to depress the activate button.

I do the same. I use Sport Individual so I can stop it from keeping the revs so high, but then I use BimmerCode to set it to always start in Sport Individual so I don't have to switch modes when I start the car.

‘20 f-150 while I find it a useless feature I don’t really have any issues.

I’ve learned to game the thing to the point where it rarely activates. I stop momentarily let off the brake creeping forward a foot or two apply the brake enough to not roll. Engine idles like it’s 1995. If I want it to stop just mashing the brake hard usually does the trick.

I despise it.

A few years ago I had a rental with it and it almost got me into an accident.

I was crossing a divided highway. I got to the stop sign first and had a gap so started to cross. A pickup truck coming straight at me blew the stop sign and turned in front of me then slammed on his brakes right in front of me. I slammed on mine but was in the highway and when I stopped the car shut off. Being only inches from him I was afraid to let off the brake and he finally turned but when I did let off the damn car had to restart and I barely missed getting t-boned by an oncoming car. It was one of those situations where seconds mattered and it took a couple for the damn car to start.

My new car has it but I am able to disable it with a button press that’s near my ignition button. It’s second nature for me to press both buttons now so I’m okay with the feature since it’s easy to turn off but it was a factor in which car I bought. I refused to own a car where the feature wasn’t easy to disable.

A net energy cost analysis would surely show that this function costs way more carbon and fuel than it saves! From the materials in a second battery, replacement engine parts due to early wear, to people driving in Sport mode.

All that has been accomplished is to move the cost off of the sheet the government uses and onto other ledgers. As usual, something "green" turns out to be far worse than leaving it alone.

I have it on my car. I don't like it. Especially in the summer, as the AC compressor cuts out when the engine shuts off. I also don't like the little jump every time it restarts. While they claim the starter motor can take it, the more starts, the more wear there is.

My car allows you to turn it off, but you have to do it every time you start the engine. There is a little module you can install in my car to defeat it permanently, but you have to remove part of overhead fascia and wire it in. Too much trouble.

It helps the makers meet emissions and fuel economy standards.

I have this feature on my 2018 F150, meh, it’s an easy work around, stop short and roll a little ways with the brake off, then full stop. The feature quit working and the dealer told me I need a new battery. A year latter, the battery died completely, and now the feature is working again. No big deal either way.

Balls on a priest, tits on a nun, and that god damn start stop feature. All useless. My 2024 Mustang has the switch to turn it off right next to the start button. I learned to do the two finger start kind of like Moe's two finger eye gouge.
