Combat Controller from Kentucky Air National Guard.

The “Airman’s Medal”, for which he is the subject recipient, is awarded for NON-combat heroism. What story doesn’t say is that he had been previously awarded the Air Force Cross, the highest AF award for heroism, for service while in Afghanistan.

There is only one award higher than both of these for heroism, and that is the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Heroism. It's the luck that gets you at the right place at the right moment and having the fortitude to do the right thing.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Not at all surprised at how he responded. These USAF Special Warfare folks are a breed apart. They are some of the best trained, the best conditioned, and toughest warriors the U.S. has to offer. God bless our U.S. miliary.

Wow! I was a member of the KYANG back in the 1980's. Back then we flew RF-4c recon birds. After I left they switched to C-130s.
