Resurrection Day instead of Easter Login/Join

I never heard of Easter being called Resurrection Day until a local news station refuses to say the word Easter. I know Jesus Christ was resurrected. Why does everything need to be changed? It irritates my old soul to no end.

If the attempt is to be more "inclusive" then they are failing badly at it because "Resurrection Day" sounds even more Christian-specific than just "Easter".

I have never heard that term being used like that. Around here public schools gave up on Easter Break long ago, it's now Spring Break.

This is a great time to get on your cable TV or streaming channels and find Mel Gibson's 2004 movie, "The Passion of Christ." It will bring you back to Jesus if you left Him.

It is the opposite of being inclusive. It is claiming back the religious Holy Day from the non-religious spring celebration history.

I still call it Easter and do t worry too much about things like this at all but I actually applaud the effort to differentiate the Christ-centric aspect of the Holiday.

To me, as a believer, Easter has always been synonymous with Christ’s resurrection but plenty of people celebrate Easter by having egg hunts and lunch with their family without ever whispering the name of Jesus Christ.

I saw a sign on the door of In ‘n Out burger with that wording. Head-scratcher.

I have not heard Resurrection Day but have heard it referred to as Resurrection Sunday on a fair amount of occasions.

Usually in the rural south.

Some great comments in this thread. The crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus fulfilled the Passover. As far as I understand things, the word for Easter was translated as such only in the King James translation of the Bible ( Acts 12:4). The original Greek and the Hebrew is the word for Passover. Jesus was/is the Passover Lamb for all who Believe. No rabbit or eggs involved

I first heard “Resurrection Sunday” from a very devout Christian relative 15-20 years ago. I immediately thought it was more appropriate than a term corrupted from the name of a pagan goddess.

My opinion, just as long as it bring more people to and not distract from Jesus Christ and his sacrifice. God Bless !!!

So in a rather twisted way by refusing to call it Easter which is a derivation of the name of the Goddess of Spring in Paganism they are reaffirming Christs' existence and resurrection from the dead. Don't let them know.

I like the name, Resurrection Day. Of course, I am grateful everyday for the redeeming sacrifice of my Lord and Savior. He is the "reason for the season(s)".

I had the same thought until I realized that by reducing the Easter 'footprint', it likely removes many little kids from ever even having a thought, or a question about it.

It's all part of the great big leftist playbook of sinister incrementalism.

I don't mind the phrase, "resurrection day." It doesn't roll off the tongue as "happy easter" but I don't say that either.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Well, if anyone believed that, they wouldn’t foist it on their children.

Ain't that the truth. What a great movie. It brought me back into the fold. I'll be spending Easter Sunday at my part time job for the Church. All day. I can't wait.

It is correctly translated as “Easter”. Herod was pagan and would’ve referred to the day as Easter and not the Jewish Passover.

I'm not Christian so I have no dog in the fight but find it odd that everyone keeps saying that Jesus died for your sins. Doesn't the story say he came back from the dead a couple days later and went around visiting his buddies?
So at most he gave up the weekend for your sins. Big Grin
