The Tundra is 12 years old and starting to have mechanical issues. Nothing too expensive and I could easily cover repairs as they become necessary, but I've got the itch.

Based on past experience I'm done with GM (many, over the years) Dodge (3, two of which were a pain in the ass) and Toyota no longer offers a V8, so they're out.

There's a 2024 F250 Super Duty at the local-ish Ford dealer with a $47K sticker and a V8 (5.0?)

Sent them a raft of pictures of my Tundra and waiting on a rough estimate of trade-in value. If the numbers work (I need at least $15K for a 2013 with 71,500 miles on it) I'll probably pull the trigger.

It is probably a 6.8 or a 7.3 (Godzilla) motor.

We have looked at both engines for our use in towing a heavy horse trailer, and either seems to be adequate. Unless you are doing lots of heavy towing, you are probably better off with a gasser than with the modern, highly regulated and monitored, diesels.

We would happily convert our GMC 3500 6.6 diesel into a Ford F 250 gasser if we could get enough out of it, but the truck market in Florida is soft at the moment, and getting real money out of the GMC is proving hard to do.

Honestly, though, with the capacity of the recent 150 class trucks, from any manufacturer, you might be just as well served by not moving up in the weight class unless you truly need the capacity.

My BIL has a 2023 F250 with the Godzilla motor, he loves it. Tows a good size bumper pull travel trailer with it.

Yes it's a 6.8

I tow the Cabota occasionally, half-dozen times a year.

Just got back to me on the trade-in, lowballed me by $4K. Not gonna happen. That may well be what it's worth but I can't swing the deal based on that.

Put the Toyota on the market at the price you want, facebook marketplace is as good as any,

If you get the money you want great, if not, don't sell it, used market is soft.

Too much hassle, don't want a new truck badly enough to put up with it.

Call or get in touch with a carmax or other dealer like them, that will buy your truck. Doesn't cost anything, they might surprise you.

Carmax says $15.4K but I'm sure there'd be "adjustments" before they cut a check.

They're putting some effort into trying to sell me that truck.

We were this close to a deal and then "Oh, I just found out it's been undercoated and has a bedliner. That'll add $1700 to the price"

No, Scooter, it won't. Keep trying.

Well, after most of an afternoon of smoke-and-mirrors, we reached an agreement.

Not the original one I was looking at, but one from another dealer, similar equipment, same price.

Refrigerator White which wouldn't be my first choice, but at least its not turd brown or babyshit green.

Pix tomorrow after I sign away my kids' inheritance and go get it.

I love my Bakflip MX4 and recommend it often. Installed it by myself (i.e. didn't need another person) which is nice. I'm extremely happy with it, and like that it folds to give full bed access. Also, like that it's rated for 100 lbs more than the lower priced model.

I'm in the same boat here. Driving a '14 Silverado 1500, and figure on getting a new truck as I'm soon to retire.

I thought I'd like a Tundra, but they pulled the rug out by discontinuing the V8.

I tow a trailer with a SxS only infrequently, but I'm not willing to consider anything but a V8.

@vinnybass: Yeah I suspect Tundra sales will take a hit for that. Definitely took them off my list and that was before the insane prices.

@tatertodd: I have a (worn out) BakFlip on the Tundra and have been pleased. Need to check prices on one for the Ford.

Bakflip for a trifold and I'd sure give your Tundra a close look at $15,000 if you were a 1000 miles closer.

Don't do it.

Another vote for the MX4 cover.
I was between it or a Peragon when I had my F150. Sold the truck before deciding.

And you'd be right. The Toyota turbo V6 has been having problems with engine bottom ends grenading. Not unusual for many makers' first-year designs, but it is for Toyota.

Congrats PHpaul. I am in the same book. Am looking to exchange my 2010 Tundra for a F250/350.
I would need to sell my Tundra outright to possibly pull something like that off.

Tell me about your F250, crew cab or Supercab. 2 wd 4wd? 6.5 bed?

I am looking for 8' bed Supercab 4wd I prefer grey over white but not a deal breaker. Work truck trim. I would like to have a flatbed on one.

What is yours and what was the sticker price?

Btw, depending on your tundra's condition and configuration it could easily be worth more than $20k on the used market.
