No doubt Wikipedia will be updated in moments ...

To date, the United States is the only country to have successfully conducted manned missions to the Moon, with the last departing the lunar surface in December 1972. Moon landing

Not a manned landing; but Israel now joins Russia and China as only countries to have sent spacecraft to the moon.
BTW "Beeresheet" means "Genesis"

UPDATE: failed to land successfully on the moon.

Will the craft return to Earth? If so, it would be so cool if it landed in the woods.

If I've learned anything about the people of Israel it's that they don't give up....ever. I'm sure they will land the next one. Smile

I hate being old and slow. Had to read Para's post about the woods several times to figure it out.

Failed landings like this one just magnify the significance of what we are able to accomplish nearly 50 years ago with a micro-fraction of the technology at our disposal today !

So far over my head, it might as well have been in orbit.

Regardless, congratulations to our Israeli friends on an almost successful landing, and best wishes for their next attempt and on their newly reelected prime minister.
