Thinking about this on my walk this morning. BTW, for me, the answer is “yes.” _______________________________________________________ despite them

I graduated with a degree in Computer Science, and I've been a software engineer for over 30 years now. Ladies and gentlemen, take my advice - pull down your pants and slide on the ice. ʘ ͜ʖ ʘ

Bachelor of Science in Industrial-Labor Relations. Master of Science in Operations Management. Degree was required for Naval commission, so I answered "Sorta’, not working in my area of study...." That said I've long been retired from both military and federal civil service careers. I chose the 2nd sorta but it’s both. Degree is in economics and I have been in banking since while in college 25 years ago. But do I specifically work as an economist? No. But I have conversations with clients all the time about micro and macro economic issues and what they want to do with their personal financial life.

BBA in Accounting First job out of college was in Accounting with a directional drilling company north of Houston. Worked there a bit over 2 years. Got poached by the IT mgr of that company to the place where I am now & have been here 8 years. Originally was semi-split between acctg & IT. Made the full-time switch to IT almost 6 years ago. Applications Specialist, primarily field scheduling software & general mgmt of our accounting system. The Enemy's gate is down.

Little ray of sunshine |
I got an undergrad economics and business degree (and an art degree), and worked in banking for ten years. Even now, as a lawyer, my knowledge of business, accounting, and economics is invaluable. So that part is a "sort of." And I have a law degree, without which I could not practice law. The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.

A day late, and a dollar short |
I never went to college, sort of wish I did. If I had, I may have not had to work as hard physically as I did through out my working years. I will turn 67 in a few days, I retired when I was 60, life for me is good with a full pension, social security, and a decent IRA made possible through a good 401K that I rolled over when I retired. To me, the key was gaining employment with a company that offered a pension plus matching 401K, and never once making any early withdrawals from that 401K. ____________________________ NRA Life Member, Annual Member GOA, MGO Annual Member

English, Political Science, History. I have degrees in all three. Each is a popular precursor to a Juris Doctorate, as many schools don't offer an undergraduate law degree. I work as an attorney, so I answered yes.

Void Where Prohibited |
Kinda sorta. I got a BA in Biology and a BS in Medical Technology. Worked in a hospital lab for 2.5 years and decided I didn't want to do that for the rest of my life. I then went to a Tech School in a 9-month IT Certificate program and learned programming (IBM Mainframe in the 70's). Got a job programming and developing for a hospital lab system and spent 41 years there, getting into client\server, financial systems, and Web App development. I just retired last week. No, although I wouldn't have qualified for the first job in my career path without a degree so it did benefit me in that manner (even if it shouldn't have because a college education in general did not give me the skills I use on a day to day basis.) "The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people." "Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy." "I did," said Ford, "it is." "So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?" "It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want." "You mean they actually vote for the lizards." "Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course." "But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?" "Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

BBA Finance. Worked as financial planner/insurance salesman for first five years after college. After that switched to electrical, and did four years of electrical school. Got Master Electrician license after school. Now I'm an Operations Engineer in a data center and collecting courses and Certs. So I've either gone to school for what I was going to do or gone to school for what I'm doing pretty much my whole life. Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

1st Sorta. BS in Biology (with more Chemistry than required, and also about 18 hours more than needed for graduation), focused on Medical Tech. Thirty plus years of Safety and Occupational Health, and dabbled with Industrial Hygiene (one credit hour of Chemistry short of being able to work as an IH).

I answered yes as my degree is in biology and I work in biotech. However, going into biology I knew nothing of the biotech industry and had more intentions of working in ecology or something outdoors. These go to eleven.

Listed "other". My undergraduate degree was political science; and other than having a BA there was no association with my practice of medicine. Except...that work I did in Russia was related to my BA and my graduate work in Berlin in "East-West studies". _________________________ “ What all the wise men promised has not happened, and what all the damned fools said would happen has come to pass.”— Lord Melbourne

I have a BA in Latin and in Greek as well as a PhD in the subject, so I'd say in my former life as a college prof and now a high school Latin teacher, that's a solid "yes". ---------------------------- Chuck Norris put the laughter in "manslaughter" Educating the youth of America, one declension at a time.
