If they are more interested in the R&D side, the national labs employ many chemie's. The explosives side of the house is a very fun field for someone with a chemistry/chemical engineering background.

There is big money for Chemical Engineers in the "Perfuming" industry - scents - whether they are for detergents, soaps, perfumes or candles. If one has the "nose" for it the salaries are excellent.

Here in South Louisiana we have a ton of chemical plants along the Mississippi River . Just announced a new one this week . A lot of plastics and things related . Some refineries too . Target rich environment for somebody with a degree .

All that I know about this is the fact that my nephew has a degree in chemical engineering and makes a boatload of money.

Lots of things. We supply laboratory equipment and many of the folks who use it are CE majors. I can't be too specific but we've delivered to:

Just about every automaker who does R&D in the US
Defense companies
Tech companies
Chemical companies
Every national lab that I'm aware of
That's all on top of the university segment which is a foot in the door as it seems most folks stay brand loyal to whoever they used during school and I'd say a decent number of folks get their phd and stay in the academic field.

Consider a water company, we need the H2O and the industry has many facets.

Son is a ChemE with specialized study in Fuel Science. Interned at a Nuclear power plant in the Chemistry department. Now a RedLeg Army Colonel. At least he got his degree

Nephew has his degree and made wonderful money, working all over the nation cleaning up disaster areas .

After 8 years he got burnt out.

Holy necrothread Batman! And the OP hasn’t been here in over 2 years!

Family member with a chemical engineering degree from a highly respected program.

Has been in automotive and industrial coatings field for most of the career - 20+ years now.

First was a supplier rep that was stationed in plant paint shops then moved higher up and is in account management for the coatings.

Our chemical engineers are asked to find ways to make large quantities of the formulation we made in the lab. Good job. Must be comfortable with the perfect being made imperfectly.
