Your "private prediction" is discussed on page 4 of this thread...

Thanks! Glad I'm not alone in being brilliant but wrong.

Newsom reverses course. Previously he said whoever he picked as temporary replacement would not be allowed to compete in the future primary for this California senate seat.

But now,

“If that person decides she wants to seek a full term in 2024, then she is free to do so. There is absolutely no litmus test, no promise,” Newsom spokesman Anthony York told The Times on Sunday.

GOP lawmaker Issa demands answers from Newsom, Senate leaders on Laphonza Butler's Maryland residency
Issa says Butler's appointment a potential violation of California constitution

October 2, 2023 3:00pm EDT

FIRST ON FOX: Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., is expected to send a letter to California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Sen. Alex Padilla, D-Calif., Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., on Monday afternoon expressing concern over Newsom’s recent appointee to replace the late Democrat Sen. Dianne Feinstein.

Newsom tapped Laphonza Butler, the president of EMILY's List – a Democratic political action committee (PAC) dedicated to electing pro-abortion Democratic women to office – for the vacant interim Senate seat late Sunday evening.

However, Butler's home address is listed in Silver Spring, Maryland, and Issa is questioning the constitutionality of her ability to take office while residing in a different state than the one she will represent.

"We're not talking about the question of majority, we're talking about 38 million Californians who have an absolute right to have somebody who puts California first – not who puts the District of Columbia first or Maryland, where she's a resident, first," Issa told Fox News Digital in an interview Monday.

"It's not that he couldn't find somebody," he continued. "Instead, [Newsom] chose the most progressive African American woman he could find, seemingly for political purposes."

Issa expects he will have a handful of co-signers on the letter.

Newsom's office told Fox News Digital that Butler moved to the suburbs near Washington, D.C., when she became EMILY's List president in 2021, and that she has a house in California. The governor's office added that Butler will re-register to vote in California before she is sworn in.

"The quid pro quo of agreeing to pay your California taxes in return for becoming a senator is not an acceptable bargain," Issa said. "That's a privilege the rest of us don't get."

According to California law, to be eligible for a Senate bid, a person must be a U.S. citizen, a resident of California, and a registered voter in the state.

Butler's EMILY's List biography had her residence listed as Silver Spring, Maryland, earlier Sunday evening, but it was removed from the profile shortly after it was announced she would be appointed to the position. An FEC filing from Aug. 31 also showed a Maryland address.

The seat is a highly contested one ahead of the 2024 election, and the governor's decision has significant implications for the deep blue bastion that is seen as the poster child for Democratic policies.

Butler will finish out the remainder of Feinstein's term in Washington, D.C., ahead of the 2024 election. In a statement, the governor described Butler as an "advocate for women and girls, a second-generation fighter for working people, and a trusted adviser to Vice President Harris."

"As we mourn the enormous loss of Sen. Feinstein, the very freedoms she fought for – reproductive freedom, equal protection, and safety from gun violence – have never been under greater assault," Newsom added. "Laphonza will carry the baton left by Sen. Feinstein, continue to break glass ceilings, and fight for all Californians in Washington, D.C."

Butler thanked Newsom for the appointment in a statement on Monday.

"I am honored to accept Gov. Newsom’s nomination to be a U.S. Senator for a state I have long called home," she said.

Butler will be the only Black woman serving in the U.S. Senate and the first openly LGBTQ+ lawmaker to represent the Golden State in the upper chamber.

Other top Democrats vying for the seat in 2024 include Democrat Reps. Adam Schiff, Barbara Lee and Katie Porter.

Gavin Newsome follows the Leftist pattern of inverting the meaning of words--specifically the word "freedom".
He may delight the ladies, but he is a very, very dangerous man.
I'd love to know what skeletons are in his closet.

Gavin Newsom Throws Dart At Board Covered In Black Lesbians To Select Next Senator

https://babylonbee.com/news/ye...os-of-black-lesbians

SACRAMENTO, CA — California Governor Gavin Newsom announced this week he had selected recently-deceased Senator Dianne Feinstein's replacement by throwing a dart at a board full of pre-selected photos of black lesbian women.

"We had binders full of black lesbian women we were just waiting to use," Governor Newsom told reporters. "I really didn't know much about them other than they were, of course, black, and also lesbian. This one, what's her name? Lalapalooza or something? Yeah, whatever. She's fine."

Newsom was seen staring at a large board in his office put together by staffers displaying dozens of photos of black lesbian women before turning around and launching a dart over his shoulder. Without looking back he told his staff he was happy with his pick.

"I think she lives in Maryland or something but whatever. What are my constituents gonna say?" Newsom said. "Does she have any political experience? Is she qualified? Is this going to turn into another Kamala Harris or Ketanji Brown Jackson situation? Maybe. But this one's super pro-abortion and I hear that's polling well with Californians these days…at least the ones who still live here."

Newsom's choice, fundraising mogul and abortion-enthusiast Laphonza Butler, told reporters she's thrilled to represent the great state of California and plans on Googling what a senator does first thing tomorrow morning.

Yesterday California Governor Gavin Newsom surprised just about everyone by unexpectedly filling Dianne Feinstein’s empty Senate wheelchair with a woke, black lesbian and lifelong political termite from Washington, D.C.: Laphonza Butler. If that’s her real name.

Most people are focused on the facts that Laphonza runs the pro-abortion activist group Emily’s List, that she once backed a plan to abolish all bail in California, and that she isn’t even a California resident but is registered to vote in Silver Springs, Maryland, which is about as far as you can get from California without crossing an ocean.

In fact, just yesterday Laphonza appeared on the Washingtonian’s latest roundup of the most “powerful” lesbians, I mean women, in Washington...

Don’t get too hung up on the Maryland thing. There’s lots of empty U-Hauls lying around on the East coast having been dropped off by people fleeing California. If you think about it, it was a good move by Newsom, because he’s actually moving someone back for a change. Laphonza is a rare plus-one on the population scorecard.

More importantly, and probably not coincidentally, Laphonza adds a lot to a potential Newsom presidential run. She runs a massive fundraising operation (Emily’s List), which also cements Newsom’s pro-abort bona fides. As a former president of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), and a longtime “labor organizer” in Maryland and California, Laphonza can deliver the unions. She has existing connections to Newsom as a former partner at consulting firm Bearstar Strategies where she worked alongside Newsom’s top political advisors. She can help deliver the LGBTQ+ vote. And she has been one of Kamala Harris’s closest political allies since 2010, and most recently served on Kamala’s VP election committee.

If Newsom were running — why would anyone think that? — Laphonza is a pretty great political selection. She’s totally unqualified for the Senate, of course, but it didn’t take much to improve on the seat’s previous occupant.

It’s disrespectful to the deceased for the flag to be so carelessly affixed to the coffin. But more importantly, it’s disrespectful to the flag to be incorrectly displayed.

California Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Oakland) decided she needed to distinguish herself from her two fellow congressional candidates, Adam Schiff (D-Burbank) and Katie Porter (D-Irvine).

Lee:

"In California, according to the Living Wage Calculator published by the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at MIT, one adult with two children would need to earn a minimum wage of more than $50 per hour to make ends meet."

in a debate:

“What would you put (the federal minimum) at?

Lee took a beat before responding: “ $50 an hour.”

“I’d like to see a $25 minimum wage,” Schiff said.

Next came Porter: “I think we should have $20 at the federal level and $25 (in) California, indexed to inflation (and) automatically increasing.”

$50 per hour is $104,000 per year

These people are ridiculous, they live in such a bubble outside of our reality

At $50 an hour, this is what you get:

Sir, here's your Big Mac meal...that'll be $37.99!

Then we will have to increase the living wage to $76 an hour so that workers can afford to eat.

Mmm...so what happens to the entire work force payscale if there's a $50 minimum wage? Does everyone else's pay go up the same percentage or does a fry cook make more than an engineer? And I guess consumer prices just stay the same too?
I'm not sure $50 an hour is enough, I'd like to have at least $75.
