Gov. Spanberger signs bill to end the renewal of Robert E. Lee license plates in Virginia

quote:
RICHMOND, Va. (WAVY) — Gov. Abigail Spanberger signed Del. Dan Helmer’s bill to end the renewal of commemorative Robert E. Lee license plates in Virginia Wednesday, according to a press release.

A portion of the sale of these plates has previously supported the neo-Confederate organization known as the Sons of the Confederacy.

“The Confederacy was a four year period in which traitors hellbent on preserving slavery tried – and then failed – to divide the Union,” said Helmer in a statement. “The Confederacy and its leaders do not deserve our commemoration, and its adherents certainly do not deserve taxpayer dollars.”

No. I'm not going to just leave it here. I'm going to add:

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's not "taxpayer dollars," Mr. Helmer, that fund these plates. At least, not in the context your statement tries to imply.
Taxpayers can elect to purchase specialty plates for their own vehicles at their own will -- it's not as if ALL the taxpayers are funding this particular license plate.

The hypocrisy and gaslighting demonstrated by our politicians is just staggering.

Today's Scamberger headline:

Spanberger ripped after taking credit for billions in investments secured under GOP predecessor

quote:
Virginia's Democratic Governor, Abigail Spanberger, took credit for billions in economic achievements secured under her GOP predecessor, earning her backlash from Republican leaders and their representatives running the state before she got there.

Spanberger touted signing legislation that authorized four separate investments from the aerospace, energy, and pharmaceutical industries earlier this week. The investments, according to a press release from Spanberger's office, would welcome 3,250 new jobs and $7.1 billion in business investment to the state.

"From my very first day in office, I have been working to create a stable business environment so companies can hire, expand, and continue to invest in our Commonwealth," Spanberger said in her press release. "I am signing these bills into law so we can continue to grow Virginia’s economy and create opportunities for Virginians."

However, Spanberger's signature was effectively just a formality, as the deals she touted were part of Youngkin's broader push to spur economic development as governor of Virginia, which included a record of $156 billion in total CEO commitments during his term. As he was exiting office, the former GOP governor garnered more than the previous six gubernatorial administrations combined, according to a press release from Youngkin's team.

More at FoxNews link.

quote:
"Abigail Spanberger inherited a $2.7 billion surplus and benefitted from hundreds of thousands of new jobs created under Republican leadership," the Virginia GOP added in February, in response to headlines about rising Virginia unemployment numbers. "Her and her Democrat allies are squandering it all in a matter of weeks while breaking every promise they made on ‘affordability.’"

- - - - - -

What are the chances that surplus is gone at the end of Abigail's term? My prediction: "pretty danged good."

I had an interview yesterday with the National Parks Service for a Seasonal Laborer Position
It would entail working on and keeping the Richmond National Battlefield Parks clean and fresh. (14 sites)

When asked why I want to work the NPS with my diverse background and education, I said well I have a history degree, an I figured I spent 17 years going to them for free every weekend, so why not try and get paid to go.

I wanted to say, because if the leftists have their way, they would all be bull dozed over and turned into free amenities, housing, etc.. for the under represented.

The irony of this statement, is that I open up sigforum and read about the white witch and R.E. Lee plates.

As for the license plates:
(Now this used to be the case)
Virginia license plates are produced by Virginia Correctional Enterprises (VCE), but the costs are covered by drivers and the Commonwealth through DMV fees. Vehicle owners pay for plates through registration, special plate fees ($10–$25+ annually), or personalized plate fees ($10/year). VCE produces plates for the DMV, the Marine Resources Commission, and the U.S. State Department.

Well free choice is a great thing, as long you choose their choices..

...(for example)

Senate Bill 753.
It authorizes the issuance of a new special Black History license plate, ‘The Richmond Planet, ’ available soon at the DMV.
The new plate celebrates one of the first Black-owned newspapers in Virginia, dating back to the 1800s.
The Richmond Planet is a former Black community newspaper founded in 1882 by 13 formerly enslaved men, most of whom were teachers in Virginia Public Schools.

OR how about a LGBQTRSUV
Etc...

If it was me I would have a Gray Ghost... Plate.
John Singleton Mosby, (in my opinion) is one of he historical figures that has done more than most in and out of uniform. Whether changing, modifying and creating new fighting tactics, to serving the US GOVT overseas after the Civil War.
BUt...he wore gray.. So he is a traitor.

SIDE NOTE..THought...
I always wondered why they never made a statue of him..

There should be an Anthony Johnson Virginia specialty plate. He was a black man who arrived in 1631 as an indentured servant. He eventually became a free man and a successful land owning farmer in Virginia. Promote him to the left as a very early example of a black man escaping the evil white man's grip (but leave out the part that he was the first person in the colonies to legally own another human, aka he was the first slave owner).

“The Confederacy and its leaders do not deserve our commemoration, and its adherents certainly do not deserve taxpayer dollars.”

This man disagrees:

And no doubt this croaking toad of a hack politician has forgotten that many of her constituents - in Virginia - have ancestors, however misguided and for whatever reasons, who fought and died in very recent memory,  son against father and brother against brother in the bloody conflict that defined America forever.

What part of "With malice toward none; with charity for all" is ambiguous to her?

Coincidentally, the White Witch also deserves no commemoration nor any taxpayer dollars.

States Rights is the new code name for Racist! Wink

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

I haven't looked into it in depth at all, but one of my first questions is "if we can toss her, then who steps in?" Would the Lt. Gov. take over? This woman's been quiet, but I'm half-scared she might be worse (and that's why she's being quiet).

Or maybe that's not the case, and we get to "spin again?" I just don't know yet. Not to be the pessimist, but I'm afraid we're stuck with the White Witch for a while and will simply have to fight her ever step of the way.

Spanberger knocked for ‘bait and switch’ hypocrisy as popularity plummets amid redistricting fiasco

quote:
One of the Democratic Party’s top rising stars, Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger, is coming under increasing fire as critics accuse her of pulling a "bait and switch" on voters by abandoning her affordability promises in favor of tax increases on "just about anything that moves."

A new ad released by Unleash Prosperity on Monday slammed Spanberger over her affordability promises as Virginia Democrats propose new taxes on everyday expenses like dry cleaning, gym memberships and pet care. Unleash Prosperity’s ad puts it bluntly, saying, "Virginia can’t afford this."

The governor has not publicly supported or signed the measures. A statement by the governor's office sent to Fox News Digital on Monday emphasized that Spanberger did not sign the tax bills into law "because the General Assembly never passed them, and the bills never reached her desk." The statement said that Spanberger has "remained laser-focused on addressing high costs for Virginians."

However, Spanberger has supported a broader set of revenue measures since taking office, including proposals targeting digital services and business activity, as part of an effort to fund priorities such as education and healthcare.

{snip}

quote:
In a statement shared with Fox News Digital, Spanberger's office slammed criticisms of the governor raising taxes as "misinformation."

Story continues at FoxNews.

Yeah. No one can convince me that tens of thousands of northern city boys willingly gave their life for a bunch field hands thousands of miles away.

And the DOJ has put the white witch on notice:

Link

Snippet: WASHINGTON (TNND) — Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon wrote in a letter to Virginia Democratic Gov. Abigail Spanberger that the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice would file a lawsuit if the governor signs any laws restricting gun rights.

This letter provides formal notice that the Civil Rights Division will commence litigation in the event the Commonwealth of Virginia enacts certain bills that unconstitutionally limit law-abiding Americans’ individual right to bear arms,” the letter reads. “President Trump issued Executive Order 14206 making clear that this Administration will take affirmative steps to ensure that Second Amendment rights ‘must not be infringed.’”
