Is anyone watching the launch of SpaceX Falcon Heavy?
Still live streaming from the Roadster and Starman in orbit!

If you have the means to retrieve it from the Mars neighborhood sure.
Dang. I'll only go as far as Florida for a free Tesla...

What’s next for the Falcon Heavy’s Tesla Roadster? The craft must travel through the Van Allen Radiation Belt for about five to six hours. This is a very iffy process, and a lot of things could go wrong. If things do go wrong, the Tesla might end up just orbiting the Earth. If things go right, the Roadster will be launch into a heliocentric orbit around the sun, bringing it close to Mars.

That was one of the coolest things I've ever seen.

Just loved the "DON'T PANIC" sign.

It almost seemed fake when both the boosters returned and landed at the same time! That was amazing!
Situation awareness is defined as a continuous extraction of environmental information, integration of this information with previous knowledge to form a coherent mental picture in directing further perception and anticipating future events. Simply put, situational awareness mean knowing what is going on around you.

That drone ship video right at 38:30 really looks like something blew up and shoots off to the right, but not the entire platform. That can't be good.

That was definitely the best launch I've seen since Apollo and the Shuttle. If they do get that car placed into a heliocentric orbit, I'd be willing to bet that some future space traveler hundreds or thousands of years from now who happens to find the car will be saying "I don't know who these 21st century people were, but what in the world were they thinking launching a convertible with a mannequin sitting in it to go around the sun?"

That simultaneous landing of the side boosters may be the coolest thing I see in my entire life. As good as science fiction!
Yes, still wondering about the core booster, the silence can't be good...we'd have heard if it went well.

It was loud and pretty.
You could see the boosters for a short time.

Evening news reporting they lost the center booster in a failed at sea landing attempt.
But still, watching that side by side landing of the twin side boosters was magical. SciFi becoming reality. Amazing!

Two out of three ain't bad. I saw an interview with Elon Musk earlier today before the launch and he said he'd like to believe the launch had a 66% chance of being successful.

I saw it live on the beach, it was pretty awesome to watch. The wife was working in Vero Beach, so I met her at the historic Driftwood Inn. I scored a beachside table. Had a cold one then walked down the beach for the launch! Pretty awesome!

Warp drive next?

Funny... thinking about the old news/NASA coverage of the Gemini & Apollo launches while watching this modern hip webcast of the launch, I couldn't help but think of Idiocracy.
Maybe the scientists and engineers haven't been dumbed down, but the audience sure has.

I'm old enough to still remain super impressed with the Saturn V launches. Even visited a site down south where one was displayed horizontally. Simply HUGE!
That would be Huntsville where the engines and other systems were designed. Drive past it every week. And, yes, it’s big.
