A group of students at Sarah Lawrence College released a set of demands Monday, including free housing and food for students, to amend for alleged “injustices imposed on people of color.”

Members of the “Diaspora Coalition” presented the list of demands to President Cristle Collins Judd during a two-day sit-in at her office and accused the college of being an unsafe place for minority students and failing to properly commit to social justice.

“Sarah Lawrence was not founded on racial or economic equality and has not implemented sufficient strategies to dismantle systematic oppression to be sustainable or safe for marginalized people in an increasingly dangerous political climate,” the Diaspora Coalition asserted in its list of demands.

The 9-page list of demands includes the following:

Free winter housing with a “communal kitchen” containing “dry goods from the food pantry”

Free laundry detergent and fabric softener for all students

Special housing for students of color

Allow students to share meal swipes because “It is unacceptable that there are students with leftover swipes at the end of the semester when other students are going hungry because they run out of meal options.”

A mandatory first-year orientation session about “intellectual elitism”

On-campus jobs prioritize the hiring of international students

Prevent students of color from being educated about history by “racist white professors”

Reject funding from the Charles Koch Foundation and review the tenure of “racist” professor Sam Abrams

All students have unlimited access to therapy sessions

Permanent funding for minority student unions that is not paid for by the student body

The students also demand that they are not punished for sitting-in the president’s office or any other forms of “civil disobedience” they engage in to promote their list.

President Judd responded to the students’ demands Tuesday, writing in a letter, “[The Diaspora Coalition’s] document brings to the fore many pressing issues that students at Sarah Lawrence face, especially students of color, low-income students, first-generation students, LGBTQ+ students, and others, and I am grateful for the willingness of our students to share their concerns with me and the campus community.”

Judd promised to facilitate round-table discussions in order to “continue conversations” but declined to acquiesce to demands to punish politics professor Sam Abrams.

According to The Phoenix, the Sarah Lawrence College student newspaper, 36 members of the faculty have signed on to the list of demands.

Comparatively, just 27 faculty members signed onto a “defense of academic freedom, free speech, and mutual respect” in December. Judd authored the letter as a response to campus backlash against Abrams, who wrote a New York Times op-ed calling for ideological diversity on campus and criticizing the left-wing bent of campus administrators.

Abrams’ office was vandalized with “messages of intimidation” after publication of the op-ed and the Diaspora Coalition referred to him as “anti-queer, misogynist, and racist” in its list of demands.

All you had to read was Sarah Lawrence College and everything else was an eye-roll. SLC is right up there with Bryn Mawr, Mills, Oberlin, Evergreen, Williams, and Vasser as the top feminazi, super-lib university.

You mean you can just demand ridiculous stuff when you go to college? I guess I did it wrong when I did my undergrad and graduate degrees. I'm working on another master's now, I guess I should get my list of demands ready.

I've been helping to get them free room and board for going on 25 years.......oh....wait...that free room and board was given in lengthy prison sentences to "people of color" who PERPETRATED INJUSTICE on others.

And the majority of the time, the victims were OTHER "PEOPLE OF COLOR"! But those facts dont fit the narrative the socialists and their media are attempting to create.

It could be that one of these fine days university presidents will start giving a bit more thought to the people they’re admitting as students in the first place rather than having to think about how to handle demands like this later.

A newspaper article I read just today pointed out how college applications continue to rise and how the percentages of those actually admitted continue to drop. Perhaps they should become even more picky about some criteria.

I'll bet there's enough flannel there to open an outlet store.

If they actually went to school in search of an education they might learn the definition of "irony"!

My cousin went there for undergrad (only child of an attorney and dermatologist). At a family gathering, she was laying into my brothers and I about our privilege (this was 10 years ago). We then pointed out her privilege at which point she said "No, that's different." She's now has her doctorate is some STEM and is looking for tenure at a University of California campus.

At $50-70K per year, just raise tuition another $5K/year and grant their wishes.

Expel them was my first thought... but I have a better idea. They seem to want socialism, give to them.

Raise the tuition cost by 4x and give them everything they want for free.

Provide the special housing, but the students of color HAVE to live there, no exceptions

Students no longer get to pick their major, it will be assigned.

All students will have access to food which is now free. Breakfast will be oatmeal, lunch will be oatmeal, dinner will be chicken or spam with beans.

There will be a mandatory first year orientation on being a good comrade and doing what you're told, happily for the good of he university

Funding from the Koch Foundation will be terminated, as will the beans with dinner.

International students will have priority of the jobs that they will be assigned to for the good of the university.

Students of color will be placed in special classes only taught by professors of color. If adequate professors of color are not available, students will sit in the assigned room and wait until one can be found.

Free working therapy will be provided by issuing every student a broom and assigning them to find their value in service to the university by cleaning up campus
