We have been looking for a new Highlander

Stopped by a local dealer outside Nashville today. They had a few on the lot, the selection is slim.

Two prices on the vehicle first the MSRP price the other price was 3k over MSRP and was the price for the car. We politely left.

I went to a Toyota dealership in mid-July to see if I liked the RAV4. They didn't have anything on the lot, let alone a loaded RAV4. The salesman looked pretty forlorn.

One of the ladies in the office bought a new Ford Explorer XLT yesterday. The dealer had her on a waiting list. The car came in yesterday and the dealer told her if she didn't come down to the dealership right away they would sell it to the next person on the list.

In related news, I love my new Outback Limited XT. Smile

A friend wanted a Chevy Hi country, last year during the big covid scare. He tried his best to get some $$$$ off, but all the dealers laffed at him and told him "you start at sticker", no LEO discounts before we dicker, 'cause these are hard to find"

I've considered trading in the forerunner since I could get more than i paid for it right now, but I don't want to be stuck with the motorcycle only.

Could buy a little beater from the "Lemon Lot" on post I suppose...bank some cash during this crazy time, not like they will stop making forerunners.

Dealers don’t have much to sell and are more focused on selling used because they can get some. Either way they are forced to make higher profits on much fewer sales. For consumers it’s a good time to sell a used car but not the best time to buy anything.

The deal I got 13 months ago on buying my 2020 Ford Ranger is looking better all the time.

Plus after 14000 miles now I reallyReallyREALLY like everything about it.

There's such a shortage of cars that some of the local dealerships have suspended offering "courtesy vehicles", since they don't have any cars to spare.

So if you bring your car in for service, even if it's under warranty, you'd better hope you have a spare car, or friends who will give you rides, or the money for a rental car.

Saw an article where a dealer had a markup on a Mitsubishi Mirage, which i believe is about the cheapest new car you can buy (MSRP) in the US.

I bought a Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road at sticker price several weeks ago. Sticker price did not bother me since two years ago I paid $500 less than sticker for my 4Runner. Now I would not have paid more than sticker for it, I would have waited for things to turn around. Plus, they gave me so much for my trade in it made up for sticker price.

It's amazing how little inventory there is right now . I stopped at my Nissan dealer the other day to have them change the battery in my key fob . My wife said that she would go in so I waited in the truck . There was a new Murano on the sidewalk near the door . When she walked back out she stopped for a moment to look at the vehicle . I saw one of the salesmen inside almost fall out of his chair trying to get out there . I rolled down the window and told her to run for her life . He followed her all the way to the truck commenting on how nice the Murano was , etc. Poor bastards . I don't know how they're making it right now . I'm sure a lot of them have been laid off .

I was thinking of doing the same thing, my 2019 Forerunner has less than 9K miles on it and I would much prefer the truck that the SUV. At this point would probably be an almost even swap for 3 year newer vehicle.

Would you mind if I emailed you about your deal?

Last November I bought a 2021 4Runner for $5,000 under sticker. They also gave me $1500 more for my trade than another dealer offered. Be patient, the chip shortage is easing and soon prices will be back to normal.

The dealer was having a bad month and needed to sell some cars to meet their sales goal. Made me happy.

I've been thinking about trading my leased 2020 RAV4 in for a Highlander. Local dealer has a couple but won't deal. Price starts at MSRP plus a $2k "Competitive Market Markup".

Read that Toyota was cutting global production 40% in September due to parts shortages and COVID.

Also thought about a Hyundai Palisade. Local dealer has a total of 8 new cars on the lot and no Palisades.

It's going to open soon. Louisville is where F150s are made and for the last couple months there were thousands of 150s parked wherever there was available parking - waiting on chips. A simple procedure to install once they had the chips. They are gone now so that means they must have got the chips and installed them is my anecdotal opinion.
