Do you read all the previous replies in a thread?
Do you read the replies from other members before you post your reply? I'm not talking about a huge thread like "You will buy a Glock" but short threads that are easily reviewed.

I try to.

Some threads are like reading a novel. I can't say I read through all of those.

If I reply pretty much the same as H&K-Guy, does that mean I don't?

Yeah, I do almost always.

With the exception of repetitive quotes, I do.

In a long thread that I've not been religiously following, I tend to go back 2-3 pages so I don't repeat what's already been said...about ten times.

Yes I do, unless someone posted a thesis, which I will likely pass on.

more often then not,
I have to go through a process.

check the thread title to see if I have any interest at all.

check the o.p. to see if any interest exists

ask myself if I know any thing at all that could be of interest,

see how many have already replied .

then I choose to add or not to the thread,

then go check the thread contents.

prior to adding

It depends on what your definition of "short" is.
And it depends on what the thread is about.
For example, in this thread, i didn't bother reading any of the previous answers.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Yeah, I can see how nine replies would bog you down for an afternoon. Shit, that's nearly half a page, man. You're only human.

Yes, my rule is must read every post before posting. If the thread is so long I can't read every post, I assume that what I want to say has already been said.

You need to make this a poll....

And yes.

Most of the time yes. If it’s a long thread, I’ll read the first two pages and the last two. Usually anything I would be saying has already been said.

In this specific case, the question posed in the OP was specific to me: Do I read all the previous replies in a thread. It's not like my reply is going to be influenced by previous replies.

Sometime yes, sometimes no. It depends on the subject, what replies I have read, and how many pages there are. You may not believe it, but there are threads I actually decide not to make a response to.

Yep.

It's one of the reasons why my post count is as low as it is.

Generally, if it's already been said, I try not to repeat it (this thread excepted).
