Staring back from the abyss |
Wow, where to begin? I think that I would sell my home/property and buy a piece that's better. Somewhere close by with a year-'round stream and good ground without any rocks that is tillable and plantable. Of course it'd have to be big enough for a 1000 yard range, or bordering state/fed land that would allow that distance. I would build my dream home. Nothing extravagant, just a simple home layed out the way I want and completely off-grid 100%. If there is one thing that I have come to viscerally hate, it is being dependent on anyone for anything. I won't have it. Like others, a big(ger) shop with all of the accoutrements would be built. Other than that, I have everything I need and pretty much most of what I want, so there wouldn't be a whole lot of material selfishness. Nonmaterial selfishness, though, is another story. Unselfishness is selfish for me. I'm a giver and it gives me joy to see those I care about happy. If I can help someone out, I love that. To that end, a whole lot of bills would magically disappear. No one that I know would get a free ride, but as someone who spent too many years rubbing two nickels together and praying, their lives would be a lot better and without having to worry. I would fund scholarships for deserving students. I wouldn't pay everything, but tuition/fees would be covered. They still need some skin in the game. I would build a new hospital in my community, fill it with the newest and best equipment, and hand-pick the new CEO. I'd like to say that I'd bring in the best physicians and nurses to staff it, but that wouldn't be too tough of a job as I'm a firm believer that "If you build it they will come". I'd also build a local parochial school. Tuition would be mandatory, but that cost would be offset by both student achievement and parental involvement. And, I'd give a bunch to my local parish for a new church building, and lobby the Bishop to bring in a priest that knows the Latin Mass so those of us who prefer that don't have to drive two hours to attend. That'd be a good start. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." Doug Patton.

Finish a couple of car projects that still need some attention. Buy myself a Challenger Hellcat Redeye. Invest a ton. Send my wife on that cruise she's been whining about. Alone, of course.

Actually, the very first thing we should do is find out who, say, Jeff Bezos's tax people are to shelter as much as possible. With FU money we can afford to. Otherwise you might wind up with this:

Lawyers, Guns and Money |
^^^ Taxes will take a third to a half, depending on where you live. Long term capital gains are your friend if you want to stay ahead of inflation. If you want to pass some on to the next generation, life insurance proceeds are generally tax-free to the recipient. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

I have this idea for small communities for autistic adults. Between 5 and 10 separate living quarters, each with a bedroom, bathroom and living room all connected to a central dining/entertainment facility. Extra living quarters for the caretaker(s)/cook(s). The caretaker quarters in the 5 unit communities will be for a single caretaker while the 10 unit communities will have a caretaker couple. For the selfish things, I’d probably buy myself some impractical guitars and a cool car like a 1970 Dodge Superbee or a 1968 Maserati Ghibli.

Selfish: Buy Greenland, and then scheme about what to do with it with Trump. Unselfishly: Pay off the national debt. Anything less just sorta seems half-assed, and I'm already mighty good at that.

It wouldn't change anything drastically. I would retire a little earlier than i plan to at the moment. I would have a little nicer of a home and car, thats about it. Would take some time to get used to the schedule change, i have worked 3rd shift for nearly the last 15 years.

Prepared for the Worst, Providing the Best |
I'd buy a couple of hundred acres in WY, SD, or AK, build a small but comfortable off-grid home with a big pole barn shop, a tractor, a range out back, land to hunt, and a stream to fish. I'd retire and spend my time keeping up the homestead and probably farming a bit. As far as the unselfish stuff, I'd pay off some bills for my church and increase our contributions to our missionaries, but not enough to fully-support any one thing, because I don't think it's healthy for one person to "own" a ministry. I'd pay off some mortgages for some family members, take care of some medical bills for some friends, and set my and my wife's parents up so they could retire and not have to work any more. I'm not really into dumping money into any particular organization. I don't trust how most of them are managed, and a lot of charities get exploited for handouts by people who don't have legitimate needs. It's not to say they don't help people who need it, but there's usually a good deal of waste/misuse, too. I think I'd feel better setting up a fund that I could use at my discretion to anonymously help out people directly who really need it.

Design and build my perfect house on a nice enough chunk of land to not see or hear anyone, in the place I want. I would build a multibay range not terribly far away with some classrooms and teach shooting and armorer courses with some sponsored defense courses for battered women. I would teach everyone not just mil or le though some closed courses for contract reasons would have to exist I suppose. I would research and find a good cancer research place and do what I could for them either funding research or building facilities. I would sock some away. I would travel. Somewhere in there I'd blow just a bit on a really dumb car or a crazy gun though. Thats just realistic.

I would take half of the money and spend it on guns, booze, fire trucks and hookers. The other half of the money I would just foolishly spend it away. “I'm fat because everytime I do your girlfriend, she gives me a cookie”.

Quit staring at my wife's Butt |
Golf all the major courses across the country, shoot guns on my private range, fish, have fast cars repeat. is this a Karma?

It's pronounced just the way it's spelled |
All of this is done by a very anonymous trust whose name has absolutely nothing to connect it to me. Selfish, the usual, dream convertible sport cars for me and my wife, a vacation home, a private range, some cool guns, an automated reloading system for every caliber I shoot, a private plane & pilot, and a finally, really good butler. Unselfish, help those of my friends & family that truly need it, donate to the church we belong to, donate to groups getting homeless vets off the streets, set up a large scale effort to get stray dogs and cats someplace safe to live, support those who are trying to find and free children being trafficked as sex slaves. I’m sure there are other things I would be able to come up with, given time.

Set it up like my retirement: 1/3 towards 'daily living expenses', 1/3 for extras (trips, gifts, college/trade school fund, etc) - which if unused goes into the 1/3 group - legacy inheritance for the kids and grand kids. We live pretty good now - the only thing we would probably do is buy a house with a first floor owners suite and gift money to the kids to 'upgrade' their homes. The ratios would certainly be adjusted depending on amount received.

God has blessed me and my wife so that we are comfortable in our old age - the most recent blessing is the election of Donald Trump! His election safeguards the savings we have managed after over 70 years of hard work. There is not what is called FU money, but we have a lovely home, 2000 SF, in a wonderful town in Central Florida, a completely functional little 2014 Ford SUV and all we want or need. We support charities and individuals where we are able and will continue to do so. If a sudden huge amount of money can our way, we would continue our donations and support of people in need as we have in the past, only more-so. I truly believe that a Harris victory had the potential of destroying the savings of all of us that have labored and saved over the years of our lives. The Democrats believe that every dollar of our earnings belong to the Government, to be distributed as they wish. Beating the dead horse, I object to ILLEGAL immigration, especially when that act is rewarded with travel and cash support. That money was better spent in support of our military veterans, our less fortunate children and our elderly! Rant over... No quarter .308/.223

^^^ I think you're missing the point. This is a fantasy, and up to now was not blatantly political.
