I am not Catholic so perhaps I do not understand.

The Pope has directed money be taken from collection plates/baskets around the world and given to caravan-ers? I understand the "Jesus would..." argument, but he is a politician. Perhaps not the best planned move?

Don't click this BBC site link if you disagree with their politics. Here's a cut/paste of the first few paragraphs...

-------------------------------

Pope Francis has donated $500,000 (£387,000) to help migrants stranded in Mexico as they try to reach the US border, the Vatican said.

The money comes from the Catholic Church's Peter's Pence fund, from church collections around the world.

A statement said vital aid for the migrants was falling as global media coverage of the crisis decreased.

The Pope has previously criticised US President Donald Trump's aim of building a wall to keep migrants out.

The US has put pressure on Mexico's government to stem the so-called caravans of people from Central America heading north.

"In 2018, six migrant caravans entered Mexico, for a total of 75,000 people. The arrival of other groups was announced," the Peter's Pence office said.

"All these people were stranded, unable to enter the United States, without a home or livelihood. The Catholic Church hosts thousands of them in the hotels within dioceses or religious congregations, providing basic necessities, from housing to clothing."

The Catholic Church under the popes watch is nothing more than another left wing front.

Jesus would help them over come problems in their home countries. Not overthrow another country’s democracy by sliding over the border in the middle of the night.

I also would not doubt if the church isn’t using “donations” from
Soros and company.

Perhaps the Pope should invite the migrants to setup camp within the walls of the Vatican.

Pope is just another entitled rich man, like all the rest. I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire.

This pope has killed my desire to support the Catholic Church. I remain (I try) a good Catholic but I have not stepped foot in a church since he started. I will have too in June for my mothers memorial service up in Boston but then I have no more plans to step in a Catholic Church (or the state of MA for that matter) until things change.

The Pope is not the Church.
I still attend mass. But I won't contribute money to the church if this is how it's going to be used.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Like many here, I certainly hear the socialism in so many of his statements. Socialism is a proven path to misery, and I abhor it. That said, I won't be abandoning Catholicism, nor do I take issue with the pope using church funds to feed the poor, whoever, and wherever they are.

BUT -- releasing a press release about that gift of food/medicine/housing is a political move to keep the subject in the media and affect political outcomes. I think their heart is well intentioned, but I personally do NOT approve of the church meddling in politics.

Trump needs to respond... This will bring even more illegals into the US, costing us more money. Where should this money come from? Perhaps we need to start taxing the church?

I stopped believing the Catholic church was in any way, shape or form Christian years ago. So much of what is Catholic doctrine is not scriptural.

To me, the Bible is the final word.

Amen.
