Accident forgiveness kept the rate from going up.

Rates have incrementally gone up over the years, about the same as all insurance companies do. Exception being our most recent auto renewal went down by about $156 over the 6 month period.

Total after discounts for 2017 Mustang GT convertible and 2015 F-150 XLT 4x4 SuperCrew is $950 for 6 months and $715/yr for Homeowners

I keep hearing about other companies beating USAA rates, so just did quotes with Progressive, Liberty, and Geico and none of them beat USAA for equal coverage. Shocked that Geico was more than double USAA for the 6 month auto policy.

I was very happy with the claims process for my wife’s at fault accident and they gave me about $2500 more than I was expecting on the total value. No problems, very responsive and polite.

Guess I will stay where we are at.

Wow, they didn't give me that. My wife tagged a guy with the rear corner of our Ridgeline. His Kia had a scratch on the fender and they almost doubled our rate from $120 a month to $203. My driving record is clean and this is her first at fault.

Been a customer for 17 years. Two claims from run-ins with deer, no issues getting things taken care of.

We just added a third car last week and shopped around. USAA was a little higher (~$100/ year), so not enough to get us to leave them.

I will say that the absolute best service I've ever received from an insurance company was from State Farm (got hit by an elderly driver and totaled my car). The local agent went above and beyond my expectations to make us happy. He actually raised the compensation check about three times without any real haggling on my part. He started with the market price for the car, then called back and said that after looking at the car, the excellent condition it was in warranted a higher than market price, then he gave us another bump since we didn't need a rental car.

I had Gieco for 20+ years. only filed one claim and they handled it well. I have no real complaints, but USAA turned out to be MUCH cheaper. I joined USAA because the contractor I work for their pay checks clear my account a day or two earlier than everyone else (we only have 24 pay periods so we can have 9-12 days per pay period).

I bought an 08 Yaris as a daily driver and I got full coverage on it (I uber so wanted full coverage) for the same amount that everyone else was charging for just liability! So I decided to move my RSX over to USAA an saved nearly $40/mo. Even at Geico I had the RSX set to "fun car" mode with only 5k miles/yr but still saved with the exact same level of coverage.

I do admit I have not filed a claim with USAA yet, but the times I've called for other assistance with banking they were professional and courteous and helpful.

I've been a USAA member for a long time, but their insurance rates in Nevada are not competitive. Not even close, so we dont gave insurance through them at this time.

We switched from state farm a few years ago - experienced the same thing with SF that you mentioned. For us, the costs were pretty much the same.

Two of my daughters have contacted USAA. The one living in GA found USAA higher than others, forgot which she is now using. The other daughter in NC has pretty much gotten the run around - USAA thinks the insurance value of her home is a lot higher than she paid which drives up the premium. I think she's shopping around this fall.

So I think USAA is hit or miss.

They were easy to work with when we had hail damage on the cars. No other claims.

This is my opinion also. Was with USAA for about 20 years starting in the early 1980s. Then did some price comps with the other big names and they beat USAA by a lot (more than $400 annually). So I asked USAA to merely match the competition, and they refused. I then left for State Farm for around a decade.

Checking my rates again after two moves to two different states, USAA suddenly became cheaper. So I then went with them for the last few years. It's time to check rates again. Have never had a homeowners claim and a great driving record. One thing USAA does is if you're vehicle is in storage (say you're on a deployment) you're rate is dropped by 80%. Others may do this, but USAA is very familiar with the process.

I had USAA for years and finally had to switch as they were over double what the other companies quoted. I keep checking with them but they are still outrageous and have been for the last decade.

A homes market value has nothing to do with what it should be insured for. It needs to be insured for the cost to demo it including the foundation and then rebuild it to the same size and quality at current construction costs.

I handle claims that go over limits a decent amount and they aren’t always even total losses. One that was a total was a doozy, customers met with agent a few months prior and insisted on a lower premium accepting less coverage. They were way underinsured on an over million to rebuild custom home. Ouch.

Plus I’m just going to say this, I called USAA after these claims of thousands of dollars in SSA contributions. It is paid in the same manner as a dividend, a portion based on a formula involving your current balance being paid in cash and the remainder going into the SSA. If you are getting a massive payout each year you either insure a metric shit ton of stuff or are wildly overpaying for your insurance needs.

It’s just math. Check your February statement. 30 years, cars home umbrella and 2017 paid 140 in cash and 440 into account. If you got back 1000 dollars cash something is off. Our you are are confusing the cash payout with the account deposit. Which is money you will basically never see, ever, unless you divest yourself of USAA insurance entirely. Your kids might thank you but that’s it. Check your statement.

We had USAA car insurance for 21 years. When we got around to filing our first claim with them, a very simple one, they screwed it up. It got worked out to our favor in the end but it made me start shopping around. We ended up with State Farm for much cheaper. We have our home policy with them as well. The agent lives right down the street. We should have switched sooner. I do like USAA for some banking services and still use them.

My mom used to work for Allstae and Nationwide...she told me to shop insurance yearly. Bring your coverage sheet to the office and sit down with a person. Compare apples to apples.

I went with Farm Bureau in NC and when we moved TX FB saved us a bunch with the house and cars.

pedropcola,

It's the combination of SSA annual dividend AND the senior (over 40 years of membership) annual disbursement that yields 4 figures. No one ever said the plain Jane SSA dividend alone did.

I'm shopping for insurance now and recently joined USAA through my father-in-law.

Even though I had heard great things about USAA, they were significantly higher than anyone else I got a quote from.

This is my second year with USAA. They are more expensive than my local insurance broker. The only reason I have them is that they pay the claims immediately. I have friends in NC and SC that suffered from the storms recently. USAA was paying off from a van that was in the mayhem.

Ok. That’s the first mention of a “senior” dividend. In fact the USAA rep didnt mebtion it either. Typical. I could call back and get a totally different answer.

I mentioned it (senior dividend) in my post on the previous page. Smile

I'm not eligible for them, but I have been hit by a man who had them.

He felt bad, and waited, after he backed into my car, while parking.

It took 6 weeks, and a threat of legal action and complaints filed w. the AG to get them to issue a check to the dealership, who repaired the car.

They also lied to me, repeatedly. Now, all insurance companies may be like that. I don't know. But they were real jackasses to me.

I've been a USAA member since I went through Army ROTC 30 years ago. Heck, I used to joke it was worth getting a commission just so I could have access to USAA. Their service was legendary. Truly.

Until 10-15 years ago, they only took officers and warrant officers. Then they allowed pretty much any vet in.

My personal opinion is USAA's aggressive move and non-stop advertising to get big has diluted the brand a lot. But still, even diluted, it is pretty damn competitive.

I've used them for 3 home owner insurance involving plumbing issues, medium. big, gi-normous. They were a snap to deal with every time. Barely had any interactions involving car insurance, and I hope it stays that way...
