Been with USAA for 25 years. Never a problem with claims, either auto or homeowners. You may be able to get lower rates, but in the end, remember that you get what you pay for.

They are a shell of the great company they used to be. Not that I'm calling anybody out but I used to outstanding service from them. I use home car and umbrella insurance, banking, credit cars, loans, and even their brokerage unit. If you have an issue now they are a pain to deal with.

They are no different than any other company but they are more expensive in many cases.

Shop around, you can do better.

I could tell you numerous horror stories about their service in the last couple years. Last month, youngest daughter went away to college. Left car here. Getting a straight answer or even the same fucking answer twice in a row was impossible. Quotes were all over the place. had to escalate and lodged a formal complaint over the ass hattedness that I endured over a 3 week period. Bad information, wrong information, literally removed things from the wrong vehicle instead of the right one, trust me it was like dealing with kindergartners.

I will shed myself of most USAA products in the near future.

Been with them now for almost 44 years. With the subscriber and senior annual savings distribution I receive the annual cost is significantly less than what I could get elsewhere for a combo policy (cars + house). Service and claims over the years have been quick and painless especially with my sons growing up. <wink>

That said the USAA I joined back in the day isn't what they are now with many of the services eliminated or farmed out. This as a direct result of their having expanded the membership eligibility in steps over the years. Here I mean it started out as a insurance/banking firm for military officers only and has expended now to damn near anyone with corresponding increases in claims percentages per member being filed impacting rates and services. With all the changes including their current advertising, I'm not so sure I'd be joining today. But as said with the "rebates" I get due to my long time as a customer it makes no sense for me to jump ship now.

I have had then before when I lived in an area where they had good rates.

When I moved states they were no longer competitive on price.

I like hen a lot and was always very very happy with their service. If price was competitive I would gladly go back to them.

You guys are referring to the Subscriber Savings Account. You get a percentage kicked back every year. If you leave USAA supposedly you get the account as well.

I have been with them for 30 years and lots of product. I think you guys are wildly over stating the dividend you receive. Or I'm getting fucked. lol

We have been with USAA for home and auto for 4 years now. Had one at-fault claim over 3 years ago where my wife blew a stop sign and totaled our car as well as the car she hit. Neither of us have any moving violations.

Accident forgiveness kept the rate from going up.

Rates have incrementally gone up over the years, about the same as all insurance companies do. Exception being our most recent auto renewal went down by about $156 over the 6 month period.

Total after discounts for 2017 Mustang GT convertible and 2015 F-150 XLT 4x4 SuperCrew is $950 for 6 months and $715/yr for Homeowners

I keep hearing about other companies beating USAA rates, so just did quotes with Progressive, Liberty, and Geico and none of them beat USAA for equal coverage. Shocked that Geico was more than double USAA for the 6 month auto policy.

I was very happy with the claims process for my wife’s at fault accident and they gave me about $2500 more than I was expecting on the total value. No problems, very responsive and polite.

Guess I will stay where we are at.

I just looked it up. 30 years and I got back 140 dollars this year in cash and they added 400 to the SSA which has a grand total of 5000 dollars. Whoop de shit.

That is a paltry sum that nowhere makes up for their hefty prices.

I'm just saying you guys might be thinking you get a lot more than you actually are. The statement comes out every February if you want to look.

I receive 4 figures annually from both normal and senior distributions. That equals several months worth of premiums (combo house & cars). And my subscriber savings account gets a boost of significant 3 figures as well annually.

We have used USAA since December 1973: cars, home, liability, flood, extras like jewelry and guns, plus a very nice umbrella policy.

In 2016 we had 5" of flood water in our home. Their adjuster said "our job is to give you as much money as we can" and they came through beyond our wildest hope with no worries or problems.

Several years ago, my wife had some vandalism done to her car. Their adjuster looked at the estimate I had gotten and said that was too low and increased it with a check for about 60% more.

I like the fact that any agent will handle our needs and questions via phone with courtesy and complete professionalism. This is the way it has been for the past 45 years with do drop-off in service.

Both of my sons also have complete coverage with USAA.

You might pay a little more, but remember, it you buy a Taurus, do not expect X6 performance. Wink

911Boss, it is dividend that they send out.

Are you a member?

I am a member, have been for decades. My sons are not full members, having not been eligible as military. My first wife is not eligible. I don’t know if she still uses USAA or not.

I don’t know the latest policies sbout membership. My subscriber savings account is well into 5 figures now. That is the capital of the mutual association which is USAA.

We've been USAA members for 30+ years and our experience mirrors many. Service and rates, once excellent are much less so currently. We recently added a 16 year old driver and third vehicle and our rates went up 275%, so we are shopping now.

Amica and Erie are highly rated for service and rates. I intend to focus on replacement parts. I want OEM, not used or aftermarket.

Our rates dropped when we switched fropm American Family to USAA. Been so happy with the service that I don't shop around much.

Have USAA. Like it. I don’t buy auto insurance on lowest price but don’t want overpay. USAA has been reasonable.

After 20 years, I am going to ditch my State Farm agent. The amount of unnecessary headache I have went through is wearing thin on me.

I am looking to change to a different car insurance carrier and a coworker recommended I look at USAA. So I did. I did an online quote in August, Sept and just now with the same set of parameters and keep getting a different six month amount each time. I am entering the same information each time, and there is about a $20 difference each time, and the best I have gotten is about $30 higher than the September quote.

If you have insurance with them, and have shopped around, are they really that much cheaper than a local agent? Have you used their claims service? What do you think overall, and do you have a different direction that I should look at?

Thanks,

Jones
They are generally not the least expensive option. Generally claims resolution is good (I have made both car and home insurance claims), other customer service is okay, but not great.

However, they are no longer the absolutely great company they were nearly 30 years ago when I first started using them. Basic banking, checking/savings is okay, and generally a little better than other options.

However, they've never been able to come close to the competition on loans, when I've tried to get vehicle and home loans. Although, I try not to finance vehicles, so it's been a very long time since I looked at their rates on car loans.

Also, their investment options are not good in my opinion. Full disclosure, I am a "be the market, not beat the market" investor (aka "index investor"). Their fees are way too high on their funds. For example, their S&P500 Index Fund has an expense ratio of 0.25, while the S&P500 index fund from Vanguard has an expense ratio of 0.14 (.04 if you qualify for "Admiral Shares).

That's a long way to say, while not the cheapest, and not as high quality as they were a couple decades ago, I haven't found a better insurance option yet.

I have been with USAA for 51 years. Started with auto and then homeowners, life, banking and investments. No complaints. My subscriber savings account is in to the five figures as JALLEN mentioned above. The annual check from them is usually in the thousand dollar range depending on their losses for the year. I recommend them.

I have had bad experiences with USAA, I much prefer Amica. Amica has often been rated #1 by Consumer Reports, have been using them for 15 years.

A friend's fireamrs were stolen, mostly high end Pythons, etc. USAA has given him a COMPLETE runaround. I told him USAA is going to cheat you, he found out that was true. USAA gave him about 15% of what they were worth.

USAA has been my insurance company since 1961--I have auto and renters insurance (which covers my personal belongings). I have been very satisfied with the service they provide.
