jhe888I can see the apple. I heard a podcast a year or so ago and learned for the first time there were people who could not see things in their heads.

AeteoclesNot only is my visualization a "movie", but I often actively model the inside of things in my mind when I interact with them. I "intuitively" understand how things work by visualizing how the parts inside them work.

AnushI cannot see an apple. I could not answer any of the ball on the table questions. I can visualize life scenes I remember but I can not make up a scene. I go to sleep thinking of solutions to a problem. The problem may be parts I need to construct a new rifle or what work problem needs to be done first when I get up in the morning. I can replicate a drawing when looking at the original but wthout the original, people turn into sticks. I can easily solve the tests where a 2 dimensional drawing is converted into 3 dimensions so am I visual or not?

IcabodI’m a fan of John Ringo. In his “Kildar” books I’ve got the valley, the town and where things are pretty well organized. Then John throws a huge wench into my valley and everything is messed up. “ Oh no John Ringo!”

TigerDoreComplete movie in my head. I visualize everything.

slosigI’d probably get a zero on the red apple test. I can not only see those beautiful red delicious apples that Bob Crumrine used to bring a case of by when he was trucking from Lake Chelan when I was a kid, I can taste them, I can hear the snap as my teeth pull a bite off, and I can feel the juice running down my chin. Sadly, the things I’ve see in grocery stores called “red delicious” are just gross by comparison. Too sweet, not juicy enough, not crisp enough, just yuck!

I do the same. And when the movie comes out it's never how I pictured it in my mind.

HGWTJWHI visualize things. I see a red apple with a stem. I saw a red rubber ball on a square wood table. I saw it roll off the table and bounce on a wooden floor. But I didn't see who pushed it.
I read that John Browning could design a gun in his head. He could visualize all the parts and how they interacted before putting anything down on paper.

NuclearIt took me many years to realize that not everyone can visualize things in their mind. Not only can I see things, I can manipulate them in three dimensions, dissect them, change the color, you name it. Most engineers I’ve known can do the same thing. When I read I see the movie, hear the sounds, smell, taste, experience it. How do people daydream if they can’t do all this?

dking271I’m the movie in my head.

SigJacketIt was said the reason that John Browning (I mean, this is a gun forum) was so good was his innate ability to visualize how all of the mechanical parts in his firearms worked together. And the reason for his success overall was his brother, who could translate what John told him into actual technical specs.

tartan427I had no idea that some folks cannot see "the movie in my head" (or that it had a name) like I do when I read a book or try to imagine how to do something. Fascinating!

scratchyHyper. I sometimes cannot remember if I saw the book, or read the movie.
