I have this update in queue. 2025-11 Security Update (KB5068861) (26200.7171) I keep getting the following failed error code: Install error - 0x80070306 Windows update troubleshooter will not run. I have run the Background Intelligent Transfer Service troubleshooter, which found some registry keys it corrected, but still nothing works. I have tried the disable all non-microsoft sercices. I have done both shutdowns and restarts, none of which clear the problem. It still won't download the update, or complete its installation. I'm open to any suggestions, other than "buy a Mac" because I do have to live in the Windows universe, much as that sometimes sucks. Thanks. Mine updated last night, no issues, I found link to the update, and it includes a download file link and information on what's in the upate. https://www.windowslatest.com/...-download-links-msu/ From the link: Microsoft denies known issues in Windows 11 KB5068861… for now Microsoft clarified that it’s not aware of any new issues in the November 2025 Update for version 25H2 or 24H2, but we’re seeing installation errors on our test machines. However, these are not exactly a new ‘problem.’ Everything seems to indicate that Windows 11 KB5068861 could be a decent release in a while, but we’re still testing the update, reaching to consumers, and we’ll share our findings soon.

Sounds like that particular update isn't worth losing any sleep over it's not getting installed just now. Personally I keep Windows under a tight leash and disable automatic updating (or, more properly, 'bug swapping'.) In the absence of some specific security issue - where I'll update right away - Windows updates are left to queue up until I get a period where I don't care if the machine bricks itself for a short time.

Hmmm...Personally, I'd like to know how you do that. Unless you are running Windows 11 Enterprise (or Pro), and using the Group Policy Editor, I don't believe that's an option for most users. Sure, you can 'Pause' updates, but only for a certain amount of time. After that window, they're getting installed whether you like it or not. And while Feature Updates and Driver Updates are 'Optional', that's it. Preview Updates are only 'kinda optional' (AND ill-advised!), but two weeks later they are rolled into the Cumulative Update. By then Microsoft has hopefully works out all of the known issues, but lately that's DEFINITELY NOT the case! Re: KB5068861 (OS Builds 26200.7171 and 26100.7171), it is a Cumulative Update which, includes 'security fixes and improvements', along with FIXES for non-security updates from last month’s optional preview release. One thing it DOES fix, is the Task Manager issue introduced in KB5067036 (OS Builds 26200.7019 and 26100.7019). Unless you have paused updates, it is NOT Optional. It was already downloading by the time I got to the Windows Update screen when I booted my machine yesterday AM. Per WindowsLatest.com, KB5068861 is a 'Mandatory Release' part of the Windows 11 November 2025 Update, and it will 'Automatically Download and Install' in the coming hours. This update shows up as “2025-11 Security Update (KB5068861) (26200.7171).” Seriously though, to my knowledge this current 'Cumulative/Security Update' is the first one since KB5065426 (OS Builds 26200.6584 and 26100.6584 - The RTM Stable Release of 25H2) back on 9/9/25 that hasn't introduced any 'new issues'! Time will tell... Moral of the story - If updates are Optional, or have the word Preview in the title, DO NOT install, especially if you are running 25H2.This message has been edited. Update ran last night. When I tried to log on this morning, my laptop wouldn't recognize my PIN or fingerprint. Spent all morning trying to hack back in. Was finally able to change the PIN and am back in business. I hate Windows 11.

^^ The '2025-11 Security Update KB5068861 (OS Builds 26200.7171 and 26100.7171)' referenced in the OP resolves the bazillion Task Manager processes issue. ____________________________________________________________ If Some is Good, and More is Better.....then Too Much, is Just Enough !!
