Get my pies outta the oven! |
I had the same experience with Guiness Never really cared for it here at home Got a chance to spend a half day at the Guinness Brewery in Dublin in 2012 while on our honeymoon and at the end of the tour they take you up to the top level of the brewery to a bar that has giant curved glass windows with a 360 degree view of Dublin and they serve you a Guinness fresh from about 100 feet below and it was quite amazing.

Smithwicks at a bar in Dublin, Ireland in 1988. This was long before it was available in the U.S. It made me forget about Guinness. _________________________ "Age does not bring wisdom. Often it merely changes simple stupidity into arrogant conceit. It's only advantage, so far as I have been able to see, is that it spans change. A young person sees the world as a still picture, immutable. An old person has had his nose rubbed in changes and more changes and still more changes so many times that that he knows it is a moving picture, forever changing. He may not like it--probably doesn't; I don't--but he knows it's so, and knowing is the first step in coping with it." Robert Heinlein

This would count as "memorable." I don't drink beer very often, a Guinness once-in-a-while drink the winter, and on a summer's day (especially at Cheyenne Frontier Days) a cold can of Coors Banquet tastes pretty good to me. It was a nice day yesterday and I had a yella Curs with lunch. Memorable? Well, I got to thinking about this little experiment Coors produced for while in the 70s. The problem they were trying to address was the pull tab that were infamous items of litter. This wasn't a very good design. When you pushed in the larger tab, your thumb would penetrate deep enough that the edge of the hole kinda hurt your thumb; I understand some people claimed to be cut. What I remember is that my nose fit neatly into the upper hole when I raised the can to drink. I hated that _______________________________________________________ despite them

Would have to be the ordinary Guinness Stout I enjoyed in Dublin with a wonderful bowl of coddle. Was our last night in Ireland, the end of a three week vacation, Life was good, let’s say. "The days are stacked against what we think we are." Jim Harrison

I have never been a beer drinker, so probably when I was about 8 and my grandpa let me have a sip of his on our front porch. Don't weep for the stupid, or you will be crying all day

The most memorable beer I have ever had was 5-year-old bottle aged Duvel. The flavor of the ale actually changed significantly after aging for more than 5 years in the 750 mL bottle. Aged Duvel is hard to come by as Duvel does not last for 5 years at my house. I can't even say I remember the exact location I was when I had it, but it was a Sam Adams Boston Lager. I was a young, and Boston lager was brand new. Looks like it came out in 1987, which is the year I graduated High School. I'm assuming I was a couple of years older before I actually had it. Anyhow, as a teen/young adult Bud drinker I remember my first sip and thinking this is the way beer should taste. I loved that beer. Later I preferred Boston Ale as easier drinking. I just read that Boston Lager has been reformulated for 2023 to be easier drinking. I may have to try it again for the first time. These go to eleven.
