Wheeled coolers, which ones? Login/Join

Searched the forum and all the threads about coolers all are either discussing super coolers, soft-coolers or, home air conditioning/swamp coolers.

SO, looking to get some input on wheeled coolers. Gonna get used on the beach and the park, bounced up/down on curbs. Doesn't need to be super cooler quality, got that covered but, looking for solid options for coolers with built-in wheels/handles. Other than the common Coleman and Igloo options, what else have members used and/or found that impressed?

I say buy the cooler that you want, then buy or make a caddy or cart for it.

I would buy the best cooler you can afford..and a 2 wheel luggage cart. Most wheeled coolers have very cheap plastic wheels that are destroyed by any weight in the cooler. Or wheels that will sink into sand because they are too small.

We ended up with a Cabela's Polar Cap 40qt that we're happy with. You can buy wheels for it for $25-30. I think some of the popular brands will offer something similar or you can just get a small cart that folds up. I'd probably try to find a separate cart as suggested, with wide wheels that have plenty of surface area. The add-on wheels for the coooler we have are pretty narrow and would be worthless on anything that's loose or sandy.

These collapsible wagons are great for hauling around heavy coolers. This particular one has wider wheels that would be better on beach sand:

Living at the beach those wheels would not work.

Something like this will go thru the sand much better.

Wife has one of those, with the wider front wheelbase vs two wheels together, takes it to the beach weekly loaded with cooler, chairs, etc and has never said it doesn't work or is hard to pull.

Saw this at Academy the other day, looks like it would work reasonably well:

One of my co-workers has one of these: coolest cooler

He just got back from a week at the beach. He said the blender worked really well for frozen drinks.

I have an Orion super cooler that I've done that with, it did fine but, in this case need something a bit smaller, and easier to manage.

Trying to scale my coolers:
- Super cooler for camping trips, hunt and multi-day trips away from civilization.
- Mid-size with wheels for leaving in vehicle, overnights, day-long excursions and something she can handle.
- Insulated bags for frozen stuff when we go shopping and get some frozen goods.

I have had this fold-up hand cart/truck for years. It all collapses (wheels fold in, bottom folds up, and the handle can be lowered and raised). I have found many uses for it, and it stores flat. It would work with a cooler and a bungee to hold it on.

Fold up cart at Amazon.

Lets see,
10 pounds of ice
10 pounds of food and drink and ten pounds of cooler.

Can "she" get 30 pounds of stuff in to and out of the vehicle? w/o complications.

I found a four year old one of these at a garage sale for $9.00

I had that exact one about 10-years ago when the wheeled idea started to take-off. Handle broke and a crack developed inside.

I may end-up getting this. It's inexpensive, manageable and if something better comes along, it can be retired or given away.
