So very sorry. Went through a similar experience with my Rottie. Heartbreaking.

They give us so much and ask for so little. My heart breaks when I read these kinds of threads. Prayers that you and your family remember the good times and quickly forget the bad.

BB61, did you mention the age of your lab? Not to diminish anything, near 12 years for a mostly purebred lab is a full life.

The current Shepherd I have is 8.5 years old. She had issues at 9 months that cost over $3k, front elbows. She’s done fine since.

Some mention not getting another(or a) pet, hurts losing them. If you don’t own that dog it will still be born, & have a life. The real $$ is to give them the best 10-13 years you can. Yes, even after that full life, there’s a void.

Yes ago we unexpectedly lost a dog at under 2 years of age. The kids were younger, it put things in turmoil. I went out & came back with the current German shepherd. No it wasn’t a direct replacement for the dog lost, but it started the path back to normalcy.
