Oh, yay, I just took a fall

parabellumOh, yay, I just took a fall
The swelling has gone down substantially. No broken nose, no black eyes. It could have been much worse but I caught myself before hitting the corner full-force.
Thanks for the concern

12131The black eye, if it happens, typically rears its head in a couple of days or more. No need to freak out, unless you have neurological symptoms or visual changes.

Yeah the question is annoying but suprisingly helpful in terms of measuring your health. Another good question is can you get up from the floor using just your arms and legs.

old rugged crossOouch! Take tylenol or advil every four hours for the next two to four days. Keeping it on board will help in my non medical opinion. Ymmv.
Take it easy for a few days to Para.

Pain meds are not automatically recommended, unless truly needed. And, for a head/face trauma, it is recommended that no NSAID (which ibuprofen/Advil is) be taken due to increase risk of intracranial bleeding. Take acetaminophen (Tylenol), if necessary.

Thanks Q, I personally prefer tylenol for pain relief.

The wife got us some Publix fried chicken. Key Lime pie for dessert.
I should fall more often, preferably on Sundays.

newtoSig765Key Lime pie? Worth it!

Don't wish that on yourself. Too many others rely on you to keep them entertained and informed. Take it easy.

nhracecraftKey Lime pie is quite therapeutic!

Good to hear you were able to avoid a more substantial/serious injury. Brace yourself for a couple/few days of soreness though.

done both,
last time I fell down stairs, we had just had hardwood installed upstairs, and the stairs,
had our spicy black cat in my arms, giving her some rubbings and my socked feet slipped,
went down about 3 steps, fortunately I knew to fall backwards, and did not hurt myself,
however, the cat was not impressed and went into 4 wheel drive mode and sank all 4 paws worth of claws in me as she exited, stage left,

mark60Glad you’re in good spirits and no mention of looking like Jimmy Durante. Key Lime sounds great and if it helps I got a Costco email and the pumpkin pies are out.

OK, I am lost - what other appendages do I have, other than arms and legs, to help me up off the floor? (Naw, at eighty-one, that "certain other appendage" would be no help even with all the viagra in the world! Come to think of it, not even when I was a younger guy in my teen-age years!)

Meaning "on your own, without assistance".
My mother, in her waning years, would fall frequently and was unable to get herself off the floor on her own. My father would have to help her up, or when even he could not manage it, they would have to call the fire department for a lift assist.

darthfusterI’m sorry you hurt yourself. It’s frustrating when a thing like that happens. It’s a small detail missing the top of a step by just enough to trip and fall. Yet most of our lives we’ve navigated stairs without a thought nor hitch. Just one absentminded step 1/4 too low, topples the whole day. Frustrating.
I remember a few years back one winter after a snow. I lowered my tailgate and climbed on it like I had countless times before, but this time my trailing foot slipped and off the tailgate and shoulder first into the snow I went. In spite of my likely injuries and snow on my face, I jumped up quickly, concerned only that my neighbor across the street might have seen my error and never let me live it down. He’s a fun guy but a real tease. Anyway, ignominy escaped but not injury. I was sore and scraped for a few days.
