If any one is looking for a cheap burner or backup phone, Tracfone is selling a Moto E5 w/one year's service, 1,500 minutes, 1,500 Texts and 1.5GB of data for $49.99 shipped through ebay.

Note: be aware, the numbers above are for a full year, not per month, if you don't make alot of calls, this should be fine but if you're a high-volume caller, this may not work.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Tracf...A0%7C5374%3AFeatured

Since you're buying this through ebay, it's not exactly a real burner(anonymous) phone but if you need an additional Craigslist-selling phone or just an addition backup phone, this'll do it.

[Additional:] this would also be useful for when creating new email accounts and they want Texting verification to create the account.

I bought one. I will be updating all PITA "we need your phone number" folks. I will set up voice mail on it and then leave the damn thing turned off. Maybe I will check it once a week.

I just ignore those "we need your phone number" things.

If they get to be a real pain in the ass, I might put a phone number in the form -- either their own, or a competitor, depending on how I'm feeling that day.

I've noticed a few services I subscribe to getting ultra aggressive with the demand to add a phone number. In the past they were just optional, or a suggestion. Recently they have become "mandatory," locking you out until you complete the fields. So far I have just entered all Zeros to make it go away.

If I buy this for $50 is there any more money that has to be spent? I've never set up a cellphone and currently do not use one. I have a flip phone as a $10 per month add on to my wife's plan but only use it when I'm on the road, which is nearly never.

If $50 would pay for 1500 minutes of service I'd probably have 1200 left at end of year and this would get me a modern phone and save a little $.

Just setup a free Google Voice number and use it. I have one setup with an associated alias Gmail account to use/give to anyone I don't want to use my real contact info with. Works like a charm and is free.

Yep, you just pay your $50 and then at the end of 12 months you would need to add another year of service which would probably run you $100 or so but any minutes/texts/data not used will rollover to the next year.

*if you don't call or text alot and are always around WiFi, then this is a pretty inexpensive plan.
