Don't remember where I read it but in Norway it costs more to charge an EV than to fill the tank of a normal gas car. And, gas costs a lot more over there.

Good lord. Fuck that.

Is there a rule of thumb for how much you should spend on a car in relation to your annual income?
Whatever it is, $56K is two years' (before taxes) work for me, and I'm pretty sure that's not it.

My impression is that expensive EVs are normally purchased by:

1. People who understand the comparative economics and practical tradeoffs, but want an EV just for the fun of it, fully knowing the limitations, risks, and rewards, and plan in advance their personal use accordingly.

2. Same as #1 but those with higher incomes, what some people refer to as rich folks.

3. Stupid as fuck, woke, or both, but with disposable income.

4. Same as #3 above, but without disposable income, the worst case scenario.

A family friend our ours bought a top of the line model Tesla, but he bought it because he wanted it and enjoys the technology. He knew exatly what he was getting, knows everything about everything we've talked about in this thread etc., but he just wanted it and enjoys the hell out of it. He also has other high end conventional gasoline cars and suvs, and is a bit of a car guy.

There are other categories of buyers I'm sure. For myself I'll be driving petroleum based vehicles into perpetuity, unless something changes regarding EVs in a big way.
