looking at putting in some wifi-enabled cameras around my property and perhaps one up on my tower for the birds-eye view been doing some on-line hunting but figured I'd ask what others are using - pros and cons I already have a dedicated computer that I can use as the host and recorder.

Look into Blue Iris for the recording software. It will work with any camera that uses the ONVIF protocol, which is most of the ones out there today. I like Amcrest cameras. They're very reliable and work well with BI. Their apps aren't the best but, the hardware works well.

Remote cameras need remote power. Something you keep in mind. Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. "If dogs don't go to Heaven, I want to go where they go" Will Rogers The definition of the words we used, carry a meaning of their own...

I've been debating switching to a "roll your own" option. Our Vivint cameras are needing increasingly frequent network resets to stay online. Just don't want to bite the bullet on the cost of replacing 5 cameras [and possibly adding a couple] & access/software/storage. Don't know if they'll be usable with a non-Vivint solution. We also have smart deadbolts on 3 doors, and window sensors throughout, all linked into the Vivint system. Not sure if they'll mesh with a new solution. The Enemy's gate is down.

I have been pleased with my Lorex cameras and DVR. Mine are POE so there is limited distance from the DVR.

What are your goals? The reason I ask is that it's the time a year in my neighborhood where 5 turds show up in a car - driver driving slowly down the street, 2 on left side of street checking for unlocked cars, and 2 on right side of street checking for unlocked cars. Zero windows broken as they're making bank from unlocked cars parked in driveways. I remember correctly the last time was - 7 guns, cash, electronics, and even drove off in a BMW (i.e. owner left keys in unlocked car). The camera part of it is the next day the neighborhood FB page is full of video posts that neither capture the license plate nor capture the turd's faces. People are buying cameras to feel good but not meet their goals. Personally, my goal is to nab porch pirates so my inexpensive doorbell camera and inexpensive indoor camera shooting upward through window adjacent to door (i.e. I have overlapping camera fields of view and one view gets the face of somebody wearing a hat). I don't park overnight in my driveway so this $60 set-up meets my needs as it'll produce 2k images of porch pirate's face. I bought into the Google ecosystem just because that's what ADT offered. The video recording service is via ADT otherwise, I would spring for more than the 30 day playback access. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." We have Ring with a Ring solar panel on each camera. I have not had to charge or change a battery in over two years on five cameras. __________________________

I use the Eufy security cameras for my home and remote land. These operate with solar charging batteries built in to the cameras. Some have built in solar panels or add on panels as well. These have been rock solid and work over WiFi. The remote land cameras are connected to our Starlink for the remote WiFi connection. There is no subscription needed. I did op for cloud storage as a backup to the built in storage. The built in storage can be upgraded with user installed hard drive as big as you want. Would highly recommend these as an option for you. They have also added dedicated hard wired options as well. It's all about clean living. Just do the right thing, and karma will help with the rest.

My son really likes Ubiquiti. Not cheap, you need the UniFi device and then whatever cameras you need for good coverage. __________________________ Writing the next chapter that I've been looking forward to.

We used a lot of Ubiquiti products, mostly WAPs over the years at work & they did a good job. The Enemy's gate is down.

Arlo is quick and easy and just work. Setup Arlo’s at my mother’s place like 6 years ago and have done nothing but charge batteries since. Never had to reset, repair, nothing. They just work. My house I have a bunch of Amcrest cameras running on Blue Iris. When I get some money I’ll do an Arlo system. Too much of a hassle messing and upgrading Blue Iris constantly ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. I have 9 cameras and an NVR. 5 are TPZ, 4 are fixed. I have no idea who makes mine, it came as a kit off of amazon with 4 and I added 5 more. I have an app on my phone I can access the cameras and the NVR, The NVR also plugs into the TV HDMI and I can control it from there also. I have 9 Wyze cameras with SD cards and use an Amazon Echo Show sitting on my desk to monitor them while I am working. And when I am away from the house I can keep an eye on them with Alexa.
