Going to hell in a hand basket…

“Images and video show homeless in Los Angeles syphoning water and power in camps sprouting throughout the city's streets - with some of the brazen encampments even boasting working washing machines.

Homelessness is a dominant issue in the state's upcoming mayoral election, with a large field of candidates promising to do more on an issue that has placed Los Angeles in an unwelcome national spotlight.

Sagging tents, rusting RVs, and makeshift structures have become commonplace along Hollywood Boulevard to Venice Beach - and even in the shadow of City Hall.

Over the past year, the camps have become increasingly bold, putting up full-sized tents and cordoning off entire streets, much to the chagrin of outraged locals.

Now, citizens have snapped evidence that the urban outposts are stealing water and power from the city to maintain a surprisingly lavish lifestyle while living out on the street, taking water from hydrants and electricity from any outlet they come across. …”

Excellent. Let's keep that downhill slide going, folks! Believe it or not, there is a place we will come to which almost every human recognizes as rock-bottom. Let's keep up the pace to that destination.

Why? Because "nowhere to go but up" is the only condition in which these leftist politicians and bureaucrats will try to apply an actual remedy.

Plus, they fucking deserve the stinking public toilet that is now L.A.

There are countless videos documenting serious fires at these encampments which require large responses of fire apparatus and personnel to extinguish. Then additional city workers are tasked with removing and disposing of the remnants of the blaze followed by other city workers who spend additional taxpayer money to 're-home' the homeless who are now really homeless. This cycle is clearly unsustainable.

I believe there is not a homeless problem, but rather a drug problem that results in homelessness. Throwing free food and tents at the issue will never solve it.

How's that defunding the police going? $150 Million gone from their budget according to many reports.

Oh, how about the "rethinking bail and incarceration" -- another winning policy.

Problem is that this is spreading everywhere. Dilapidated RVs parked along rural roads on the skirts of thriving cities everywhere. Soon coming to your little utopia. It is an epidemic. If you think that you are immune from this you are wrong.
The more we sink as a society the larger and more pervasive these will come.

LA has had the homeless problem for decades. It just seems that the left wants to act like they care and this snuck up on us…. It didn’t. The sidewalks have been generally unusable in certain areas of downtown for years. Water and electric theft common for years. The numbers may be as high as 50-70 thousand homeless in LA. This is, in my opinion, another example of the left acting surprised and vowing to change the situation. They do this close to election time because a lot of people complain here and the politicians do NOTHING.
After the election, business as usual…

The police keep the homeless out of my little town at least for now.

Hopefully they'll keep doing it.

Same thing in Mpls. In addition they use bicycles to case the neighboring homes and watch the comings and goings of the homeowners. When they know no one is home they break and enter and steal what they can and trash the rest. In some cases they will set the house on fire.

They aren't homeless they are roaming marauders of which many choose to be exactly where they are in life doing exactly what they want to do. I'm sure there are some who with some help could become productive citizens but how do you separate the wheat from the chaff? Sad things is you see kids from infants to teens in these camps.

I don't "go" downtown in Dallas, so I suspect there are "homeless" there, too. We have some gun crime, too, it seems. So far, my AO is fairly safe.

Dave Rubin had a conversation with the mayor of Miami recently. Great podcast to listen to. One of the topics was this very thing: why and how Miami dealt with its homeless population vs. how the west coast utopias have (that is to say "haven't").

You misspelled "crime".
Stop using their phrasing.
It's not "gun crime" - it's a criminal doing criminal things.

They all have their heads up their azz and can’t look in the mirror…admit that they aren’t smarter than everyone and they are the problem. These idiots just move elsewhere and bring the stupidity with them. It’s truly mental disease.

TMK, the "Miami" solution is to refuse to respond, and wait for the local business owners to spray the bums with pepper spray...

I will say that Miami Beach is good about responding to aggressive bums around ice cream shops, even if they are a bit slow.

Saw the same bum on a different block the next day, but he's been convinced to stay away from areas with small children.
