That would be the perfect time to test my new home defense strategy- answering the door with a resounding war cry while holding an MP5, naked and covered with cream cheese.

Because why not? It seems like the perfect situation for a war cry. I feel like, if you have to ask, you just won't understand. Wink

That would work great except that the perp was smoking crack. But either way it would be much better than opening the door and saying hello may I help you.

Good lord, that was creepy shit. I've called 911 in other cities, not for myself, but for stuff going down around me, and I've had several situations when 911 never picked up. The fact they they didn't answer was more disconcerting in some ways than the crime or danger I was attempting to report.

Very good reminder Para, thanks. Consider oneself lucky if 911 is fast enough in really bad situations. In many places and circumstances it's practically somewhere between too late and useless.

This isn’t severe enough for Oakland PD to respond.

Our company office is next to Lake Merritt in downtown Oakland. I used to go in one day every other week. No once a year and between 10am to 2pm. Park across the street and then I roll.

The place is a genuine hellhole. It’s a failed state, a war zone.

Mostly?

They've been totally gone - long gone - for decades.

And yet, there's still a shocking number of idiots out there today who leave their houses and cars unlocked because "I live in a good area and I've always done that and never had any problems (until right now)!"

That might call for answering the door with a flamethrower. Smile

Seriously, I recently bought some Ring products. I’ve only put up the doorbell and a camera in the garage, but I also have some floodlight cams to replace floodlights outside.

The Ring app chimes and notifies me when there is someone at the door or at the garage. I very much like being notified.

For years I’ve had an alarm system which gives me some comfort in the “stay” mode, as it will activate if a door or window is breached. But I really like the notice the cameras give before any potential breach.
