My house was shaking and rumbling!

Thought a very heavy truck was going down my street.

Was just posting about it. Asking if anyone is "sensitive" to them.

I guess I am. I knew "something" was happening before it did. I started feeling odd, then feeling something, like a low frequency noise you feel more than hear. Then it got louder to where I though it was some "big bass" car stereo coming down the road. Then a goodly shake.

The last one I was "in", not as powerful, I was a work sitting in a chair. I started to stand up and sat right back down because I started getting sort of a vertigo feeling like the room was starting to spin. I sat there for a few moments wondering what the heck that was about. Then the building started shaking. Afterwards a tiny bit nauseous? Just like now.

Oh well, guess I'm running home at lunchtime to check on the house. Been concerned about my old chimney lately anyway, this surely wasn't want it needed.

You mean there was no tsunami? Really? Heck, every earthquake gets a tsunami warning nowadays.

Not for us on the East Coast where they are rare and our geology is different too (I think older?) which makes even smaller ones feel like a lot.

And it can be felt over a much larger area.

I looked at a topo map for the area and it looks like it's in an geologic region referred to as the highlands. Fox Hill Range runs about where the epicenter is estimated. I don't see a known fault line on the USGS quaternaary fault map, but the it's possible its both the source of Fox Hills Range and hasn't went off in a long time.

Also, about an hour later had a M2.0 aftershock about a kilometer away.

There is lots of earthquakes in the East, but occur in far more stabile fault zones than the west. Missouri has over 250 quakes a year, but most are undetectable without sensitive equipment. They do occur with some regularity. Here’s an earthquake probability map of the USA.

I did not feel it at my house in Allentown PA, but one of our cats who was cat-napping on a big pillow next to me in the basement suddenly leapt off of it (at the time of the quake) and made loud-ish and odd sound that I had not heard from him before.

I even asked him if he was ok but he didn’t answer.
