Heavily armed muggings in Houston Login/Join

I recently watched a video of a mugging that took place at the front entrance of a building in Houston. I always figured that a well practiced person with better than average gun skills would have a reasonable chance against a couple of street thugs intent on mugging.

The video showed a car pulling up to the front of a hotel as a guest comes through the glass doors. 3 thugs jump out. One with a semi-auto style rifle, one with a pump shotgun and the other with a firearm (what it was escapes me). All pointed at the victim.

That’s firepower. They rob the victim and land a few blows for good measure even though he didn’t appear to resist.

Comments said this sort of heavily armed assault was common in Houston. This wasn’t a robbery by a thug with a Jennings .25. These thugs were using effective weaponry and seemed coordinated and fast. Three on one. Not good odds against shotgun and semi-auto rifle plus another.

Things are getting dangerous.Thugs are getting sophisticated for street robbers.

Anyone else see this video?

Do you have a link? Since I live in Houston, I'd be very interested to see it.

Strange, I didn't see them take anything much unless he had an expensive watch or something I couldn't see.
They did seem to have a plan when it first started.

The Galleria area isn’t as good as it used to be back in the 1980s, apparently. But really, no place is.

That victim was no Jeff Cooper disciple. Completely oblivious.

Yes, thanks for posting. I couldn’t find it again. Funny, I remembered a third thug and a pump shotgun. So much for memories.

Anyway, although it was prob a crime of opportunity, they seemed quite ready and well armed. Hard to resist that unless you started gun in hand. Then your chances would not be great.

Nice that they blurred the license plate. Gotta protect the still innocent criminals from any undue hatred. Only after they've been tried and convicted should they show identifying information. I no longer trust anything the media presents.

An article I read stated that the thugs got his Rolex and backpack and attempted unsuccessfully to get his car keys.

Based on that video and the asshats in it, a moderately trained person with a pistol and some situational awareness could have stopped that attack. (if you felt they were going to kill you vs. rob you)

I don’t think that’s what it is. I believe that’s a crappy IR camera combined with light distortion or lens flare from the license plate light. If they were trying to do what you think they were trying to do, I believe we’d see the same moving blurred box over the license plate and the robbers that they had over the victim.

Experience tells me the guns these gentlemen were using are stolen. And so is their car.

Could've been a stolen or borrowed vehicle, which could lead to the wrong person getting targeted in a misguided scheme. Imagine getting your car stolen then being the target of vigilantes that used your stolen vehicle's information thinking it was the bad guys.

I saw something on the news a week or so ago that they're following people from high-end jewelry stores. The video I saw was someone getting robbed in a drive-thru (ie. fast food) after shopping at a high end jewelry store.

The turds/thieves were in multiple vehicles and blocked the vehicle and several armed turds came pouring out of the car.

EDIT: Found the story

That’s an every day thing around here.

Braced AR and AK pistols all the time. Anything from 9mm to .300 blackout. Usually the handguns are Glocks.

Rarely stolen. With a DA that dismisses everything, it’s easy for criminals to legally obtain guns.

It’s actually quite frightening. I’m outgunned every night.

Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here.

Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard.

It’s not just the Galleria area, it’s pretty much all of Houston until you get outside of the Sam Houston Tollway or Harris County in general. Even some of the closer places outside are questionable.

Damn shame because there’s some nice areas within and also close by.

It certainly can happen at any given place in Houston, as it could in any big city. But it isn't like Harris County is Mogadishu, Karachi, or even Chicago. Lighten up.

Don’t remember mentioning Mogadishu, Karachi nor Chicago. Nice reach though.

That said, fuck Houston and Harris County. Absolute shitholes because of the politicians and they who vote for them, if for no other reason. Have fun with it since you seem to like starting shit.
