And get fucked out of the deductible?

The thief isn't worth the cost of the bullet.

Deductible vs legal costs, have to do the math, whichever is less.

Point is, for the average Joe, chasing down an armed thief is probably not a good idea. This guy appears to be former military, at least he has the decals for it...

I like to see people taking the initiative in fixing their own problems than farming it out to the insurance or police. More problems should be solved by the individual.

My opinion isn't very popular with some, but I've long believed that, contrary to most states' laws (I think Texas being the exception) that property owners should be allowed to use lethal force to defend property. Cases of theft, property destruction, vandalism, and graffiti would quickly plummet.

Here's a better view, and the back story.

Yeah, I recognized it instantly as soon as I saw the sticker. I still think the whole story was overblown. Grounding the crew and conducting an investigation for a silly harmless stunt was just an overreaction.

Personally, I think the crew should've gotten an award for creativity... or at least for being so skillful in manipulating the a/c so precisely... although I suppose a new call sign would've been appropriately justified. Wink

Looking at the rear window, anyone should presume that the owner isn't one you want to mess with.

I'm not one for putting up stickers. But I would think after the shooting, he forgot all his combat medic training.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I wouldn't judge the shooter at this point.
Who knows what personal property he had in the truck at the time. Easy to say "it's not worth it" when you have no skin in the game.

I agree with those who say the thief got a long-overdue crash course in a life lesson he should know by now. Maybe he did learn "it's not worth it".

Deal. Cool

We've got a friend from years ago who got into a defensive shooting over property, down in rural Texas. Several rounds fired, bad guys' truck hit several times but no one hit. The cops were racing down the rural dirt road when the bad guys were racing away from the scene in the opposite direction, deputies instantly realized these were the guys they were answering the call for and stopped the pickup truck with the bullet holes in it, filled with stolen goods in the back.

When the deputies interviewed our friend they could see how shook up he was, had him sit down while they interviewed him, and even opened up the trunk of the cruiser and offered him some bottled water.

Thieves had already sold off several previous truckloads of stolen goods from the house so our friend was only able to recover the truckload they were stopped with... but at least he wasn't charged with any crimes.

I think the truck owner threaded the needle, at least this time. He didn't get shot and he didn't get arrested (at least not yet. Let's see what the local DA wants to do.) But there were a lot of ways they could have turned out badly for him.

Agreed and it’s long overdue. He found the truck and got it back. What would the cops have done? Find the truck if they were lucky and then impound it?

Good on him for solving the crime on his own and not wasting taxpayer dollars

We need more of this, and once that happens crime will go down. Seriously, getting rid of criminals instead of fiddling them and blaming their upbringing is the way to deal with crime.

Crime stops when there are no more criminals.

Frankly, we should go back to the 1890s….when horse thieves were hung or shot. Think about it. A horse was a means of transportation, akin to the modern day car.

And I’m all for shooting thieves. Not many things lower than a thief.

Good. Now let's make sure the corrupt local DA doesn't go after him.

We need more of this in this country. It takes some big balls though to do it in that part of the world these days. Judging by the window, clearly this man has the balls to do what needs to be done. Let's hope the locals in the area have the balls to keep the DA's office in check now.

Remember the Ash Street shootout? When the local LE and DA refuse or aren't allowed to do their jobs, everyone seems surprised when those capable of speaking the language and acts of violence...refuse to be victims.

That 80's shootout with the gangs wasn't the last time a group of AD military has had to take their protection into their own hands in Tacoma. There's at least one other story from the '00's also.

Too bad the shithead isn't dead, but that might end up being the difference in the local DA deciding to prosecute the good guy.

That’s not a common or popular belief among most people, but I was first introduced to it some 50+ years ago and have adhered to it ever since. I believe it would be more common and popular if crimes against property were explained that way rather than, “Oh, it’s just ….” You want to let someone take a piece of your life against your will, well, give away. But you have no right to dictate what I do with my life—all or part of it.

I'm not going to judge the guy for chasing down the thief. Not the choice I would make, but I don't know how important that truck is to him. Could have been his only means of putting food on the table and no theft coverage. Could have had his mother's ashes in the back seat of something else he was unwilling to lose.
