I've now had my Mach E since July 4th.

It has been nothing but fun to drive.

I'm getting 250 miles from a full charge.

I used the Hands free Blue Cruise for the first time a couple of weeks ago. After getting over the fear I found that it works quite well. It has adaptive speed control and slows down and speeds up depending on the traffic flow. I was surprised how well it works. To change lanes you just put the blinker on.

I've also discovered some other features that I like. Foe example the Mustang welcome Puddle lights. When you approach the car the lights come on to welcome you. Kinda neat.

As one would expect the car has been trouble free.

I'm charging at home with my Solar system which has been nice when I drive past the gas stations and see $5.49 for regular out here in California.

I know EV's are not for everyone, but for me it's been great.

Oh yah, I'm not saving the planet I'm having fun.

Sounds like you're having fun with it.

The one thing I like about newer cars is the Additive Crusie Control. I don't need some of the other things but that feature is really nice. There is too much traffic on the highways around me to use the standard cruise control with the ACC it slows you down and speeds up nicely. It's not perfect but it's definitely a nice feature.

I stopped using ACC in traffic, but it definitely takes some of the fatigue out of a long road trip.

My Explorer has 'intelligent' CC, it'll auto adjust the set speed to the posted limit. Works pretty well, except where you have conflicting signs near each other, like a 65 for the freeway but you're on the 45 frontage.

A 220V 48 amp home charger will add 27 miles of range per hour. The 220V 32 amp Ford mobile charge cable plugged into a NEMA 14-50 outlet will add 21 miles per hour. 110V charging will add 3 miles of range per hour.

I have never had it under 10%.

It depends on what type of charger you are using. At home with a level 2 charger that would take probably 8 hours or more. Level 2 are hooked up to 220.

If you use a 110 outlet it only gives you about 3 miles range per hour. I would only do that if I were desperate and needed to get to a L2 or L3 charger.

There is a fledgling market of L3 Fast charger stations being deployed that can put a 80% charge in your car in about 45 minutes. Electrify America and EVGO are the market leaders. These are public chargers that charge your CC to use.

Ford just signed a contract with Tesla to be able to use their charging network next year. That should make road trips much more convenient.

The current public charging infrastructure is not ready for prime time yet.

Good to hear.

My wifes company is converting their company vehicles to EV starting this year. She had several options to choose from and chose the Mustang Mach E. Should be here next month.

The 250 mile range is a little concerning as some of her sales calls are going to challenge that limit. Those towns are more rural and so superchargers are not that common there.

I have the standard range battery.

They have an extended range battery that gives you 70 more miles in range. Ford advertises 310 range with that battery.

I wasn't willing to pay $7K more for the extended range as I don't drive much since I retired.

You're going to look for excuses to drive her Mustang...

When using the Ford navigation system it navigates you to in network charging stations if you need them to get to your destinations.

My wife loves the way the Mach-E looks but is petrified by the occasional stories that show up concerning an EV meltdown that highlights some fire department's inability to beat down a lithium-fueled fire. I tell her that those are few and far between but she won't hear it. So I go look at closeout '23 ICE Mustang GTs instead... Big Grin

One of my former coworkers has a Tesla and it would do that. It seemed like a really cool feature. Before arrival, the car would start to prep the battery for charging. Not exactly sure what that meant but something about making sure the battery was an optimal temperature for receiving a charge.

You really have to be careful on the range numbers. For example, my Tesla Model S has 405 mile range, BUT

To maintain battery life, don't charge to more than 80% and don't go below 20%. That takes your effective range to 285 miles.

Oh, and add performance tires - drop another 20 miles, so you're at 265 or so.

Add heat (AC), cold (heater, battery performance), rain or snow, using that instant acceleration too much, and you fall from there.

I chose the Model S for its performance and never having to go to a gas station for local driving -- not to save the world.

What is the expected life span of the battery and how much does it cost to replace?

Do you have any idea of the residual value of the car when battery replacement is required?

That's a good insight on real world range in practical use.
Thanks

I like the look of the Mustang EV and think it's a good concept for some people who have limited driving, a large charging network, and solar to charge at home.

Know a guy that has the F150 Lightning EV, got to drive it, it's nice, quiet, and very very quick in sport mode.

I figured there’d be more negative feedback from my fellow forum friends.

I like the questions that are being raised.

EV’s are not a panacea of motor vehicles. Not even close. Ice vehicles are cheaper and I’m not sure of the environmental impact of EV’s when you consider what it takes to make the batteries. Also the electricity doesn’t just appear magically. Most comes from “dirty” power plants.

I usually run my vehicles for about 10 years then trade them in and buy a new one. With that trend for me I’m never going to replace the battery as it will probably cost more than the car is worth.

The Solar for the house was expensive but since my Cousin put it on our house I already had the infrastructure in place for my Mach E.

I absolutely abhor the government forcing EV’s on us. I think that’s bullshit!

This is me. I bought the Tesla Model 3 Long Range about 21 months ago. I'm seeing around 280 -300 miles range off %90 charge is where I usually keep it. Home charger charges at around 45 miles per hour w/ 60a breaker.

Maintenance Costs: Rotated the tires $65 & they filled up my windshield wiper fluid along with that in my drive way. (Home Delivery Tire Tesla mechanic)

Cost to run. I've got Solar that generally does 800 - 1,000 kWh a month in production. But discounting that rough math @ $0.07 a khw its like $7 to fill up the tank from 0 -> 325-350 miles from the power company at home.

Oh yea... 0-60 in 4.2 seconds & x4 wheel drive. Extra Storage in the "frunk" for range day ammo & targets that's easy to get to.

I've enjoyed it.
