Loose gas cap. Seriously.

Takes a tool or battery disconnect to reset.

this happened with my Crosstrek. If it is, it's a quick fix at the dealer. And a reminder to click close the cap.

This has happened multiple times to my wife and I with multiple Subarus. The dash lights up like you're being tracked by a SAM missile and the cruise control won't engage. Easily fixed.

The Subaru I had takes 50-60 miles of driving for the lights to correct themselves after the fuel cap seal has been reestablished. We needed a new cap at one point, I think.

Many auto parts stores will read the codes for you. It could be something simple.

This is what I was thinking. I've had such weird issues be caused by a bad ground.
