GPs these days, in general, unlike previous generations of GPs, are pretty good at handling these various diagnoses. If they can't help you directly they will send you to a specialist, and will send you to the right kind of specialist the first time. Either way you should be gtg starting with your GP for an initial. The best GPs are very good at direct treatment or steering you in the right directtion the first time.

Whatever Jordan Peterson was prescribed for his anxiety you need to stay the hell away from. He posted a YouTube video recently and looked like he had been dragged through hell.

Anxiety sucks. I think to a certain degree everyone deals with it and yes I do feel like it’s something you have to fight more often as you age.

Lots of good advice already. I hope you can find something that works and helps. Anxiety truly sucks.

I’d switch to a different GP .. one who has more experience with this.

And also get checked to see if any underlying conditions are fueling the fire.

I never thought about the exercise angle. I'm a road cyclist that usually gets 1000 to 1500 miles per year. With everything that's been going on I simply just have not had the time.

Can I ask how intense your anxiety can be?
You say worse in the morning, a lot worse?

Covid, death of mom, pressure of the estate, elimination of healthy practices, all combined would lead anyone into the situation.

Whatever you choose, doc, priest, friends, SF, sounds like you need a little me time. Getting back on the bike might just be the ticket you need to clear the mind some......

That would be Klonopin, a long acting benzo. Stevie Nicks took this drug and describes an eight year period of pure hell getting off of it. If you just stop taking the drug you risk seizures and possible death. The post withdrawal period can be a year. It is more likely to be prescribed by a GP or non psychiatrist.

Its not debilitating. I can function its just more intense than I've ever experienced before making it uncomfortable, and longer in duration. I'm having a very good day today. It seems to be significantly worse in the when I first wake through breakfast. Once I get to work and start the day it gets much better. This thread has helped from the stand point of learning I'm not the only one. Pharmaceutical help from what I understand is a temporary situation so I'd like to find another solution before it comes to that. As far as the estate goes I'm much closer to the end then the beginning. I just need to nut up and push through it. Jordan Peterson's situation was incredible and to be avoided at all costs.

Goose, sounds like lots of good advice. With age, comes wisdom..however in our youth we just were blind or didn't care. Now current events and things in life are real, and their are many stressors to deal with. My dad lived in Beulah, SW of Pueblo. He ended up being bipolar. We dealt with that the last 10-15 years of his life. I know what you are dealing with. You're almost to the finish line with your mom. That will help some. I also think not getting your normal exercise riding is a big part of it too.

But as suggested explore your options and get counseling or doctoring. I know my wife and I are currently down with all this election crap. Turn it off, tune it out. We'll all get through this.

I think I can say that most people here on the forum are here for ya if ya wanna just chat. I was born and raised in Pueblo. Left when I joined the Air Force. Feel free to email if you'd like. I'm sure we have lots in common. Hang in there.

A) When I was on T, I was so mellow that I was practically inert. For some reason I have “bouts” of needing it, but it does eliminate my stress.

B) Getting up early, and working in my garden, also eliminates my stress, and I haven’t turned a TV on in months.

Thank you and thanks to all. When I'm in shape Pueblo to Beulah and back in the best ride in this area.

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is something that can be VERY effective in treating anxiety.

There are many CBT specialists out there as well as books for self guided help.

I agree with the others, talk to your physician first for physical testing. Don't discount a physicians ability to help with anxiety either, many of them successfully treat this due to the shortage of psychiatry resources.

I would also consider magnesium supplements to help as well.

The best gauge a man can ask for is my companion for 33 years, Bonnie.

There are time when I don't realize how out of sorts, upstairs.

Bonnie would call it to my attention and I could rein in the eccentric anomalies in my demeanor.

With all that is going on these days anxiety isn't unusual. Talk to your doctor, try relaxation methods and live your life as if none of this stuff is going on. Tune out the negative main stream media is a good first step.

When the 'defund the police' and riots were in full swing, I had the same feelings. When the 'blue wave' seemed to be at high tide, it came back.

The recent events that the President's legal team is finding daily has rejuvenated me. Stay positive.
