ZSMICHAELHow many Presidents or Generals write their own speeches?
I know that MacArhur wrote his famous line of "Old soldiers never die they just fade away".
Peggy Noonan wrote many of Reagan's speeches and he delivered them well. Of course we all know that Lincoln wrote the Gettsyburg address. Huey P. was said to write his own speeches, and he delivered like no other.

Before he was president Reagan wrote most of his own speeches. He was very capable and reworked those written for him. Of course Lincoln was as well.

AUTiger89I seem to recall that Nixon would give speeches without having any notes.

229DAKProbably none, which is why they have speechwriters. They simply have too many speeches to give to write each one. At some point they probably sit down with the speechwriter and edit them.
