IT sent out an iOS 14.8 update immediately message last Tuesday due to Pegasus spyware that's floating around. Apparently it can get into your system without any user interaction.

Triggers don't pull themselves |
I’ve been running beta versions of iOS 14 (was at 14.7 until this morning when I noticed this thread about 14.8). Switched off my beta profile and installed 14.8. By this afternoon I saw the option to install iOS 15 and downloaded it. No issues with it on my iPad or iPhone.

For the first time EVERY. IT at work told us to immediately upgrade to 14.8. Typically it’s an email telling us to wait while they determine if all work apps will function properly (which really means, we seeing if our MDM systems are upgraded yet. We never hear when it’s safe to do so) I had no problem installing 14.8 on either work iPhone or iPad. No issues with my personal iPhone, no issue going to iOS 15 on personal phone this evening. I always put phone in airplane mode for any updates to prevent interruption and have never had an issue ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Live today as if it may be your last and learn today as if you will live forever

Wait, what? |
I’m getting sick and tired of all these updates so closely spaced. 15 is 3 gb if you already have 14.8 loaded. “Remember to get vaccinated or a vaccinated person might get sick from a virus they got vaccinated against because you’re not vaccinated.” - author unknown

Conversely, Apple has for years been taking flak, and rightfully so, for not releasing in a timely manner updates to address known vulnerabilities. 14.8 closes a number of holes, the most notable of those being the no-click vulnerability Pegasus exploited. That would be the maximum download - the closer your version is to the new iOS, the smaller the download. My download took less than 2 minutes - the validation and update process took longer.

I just finished installing iOS 15 on my extra phone and it can make/receive calls and text...so far, so good ...let him who has no sword sell his robe and buy one. Like a few other responses so far. I got an urgent email from IT to update to 14.8, I did it immediately as I was at my desk when the email came in. It's been on my phone for 4-5 days probably. No problems I've noticed, but I hate iPhones and use it as little as possible. Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

When I updated to 14.7 my phone would heat up while charging and the battery wouldn’t last more than 3 hours. I skipped 14.8 and went straight to 15 and it seems to have helped. No more hot phone and longer battery life.

Same here. 14.8 wasn't an option anymore... straight to 15 "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

Because I'm a technical wizard level 22 (read: MOron), I went straight for the 15 update. So far no issues, and I have an iphone 8. A day late, and a dollar short |
I had installed 14.8, and this morning installed 15. So far, so good. ____________________________ NRA Life Member, Annual Member GOA, MGO Annual Member

Went directly to 15 on phone and ipads (mine and wife's) as well as updated my watch. There's a bunch of new stuff that will take me awhile to figure and and I'm thinking a lot of it I will probably won't use on a daily bases, but I guess it's nice it's there. I Deal In Lead |
Updated to iOS 15 yesterday and there's a ton of new stuff. The map program now is much more graphical and there's a ton more I haven't looked at yet. The one annoying thing for me was answering a text while the phone was locked. Prior to 15, I swiped left, hit the view button and answered. After 15, that doesn't work. Now I have to press on the text and it opens and allows me to answer it without unlocking the phone. It does seem faster so far and battery life is to be determined.

When I did my update this afternoon, I noticed that I had the choice between 14.8 and 15.0. I went with the 14.8 until I find out more about 15.0. It's been less than 6 hours since the update so not enough time to see if there are any issues... ____________________________ Bill R. I updated to 15 as soon as it was released - as I do with all other releases. This is on an iPhone 11 Pro. I've never had an issue on a phone, ipad, macbook pro or mac. Because Apple is allowing it, I am staying on 14.x. Even though they postponed the CSAM thing, I highly suspect that 15.0 has put in place the mechanism necessary to scan local phone data. There are no features of 15.0 that I am really looking for. When in doubt, mumble

I installed 14.8 when the announcement came out and had no issues that I could see. Installed 15 last night and when I picked up my phone at 3am it had a much different screen. I use do not disturb overnight to block the notifications from banks etc. that pop up about 4 am and awaken this light sleeper. Anyway I'll be watching it today/tonight to see what happens.
