Anyone who doesn't think this is typical is fooling thmselves. Edited? GMAFB. The majority of these children really do seem that ignorant.

Ask them about the Kardashians and you'd probably get someone that could answer all the questions..

Today almost everyone is tuned into whatever is shoved into their faces on Fakebook, Twatter, Instacrap, now TikTok.

TikTok now has a commercial about people showing what they learned on TikTok,

Has to be difficult for teachers and parent to gain the attention of younger folks who are buried in electronic information delivery devices from birth

I would say if there are any kids like this (even one) who can't answer these questions ... is troubling.

Grading in public schools has been dumbed down to the point that everyone passes, regardless of ability. We wouldn't want to hurt their feelings.

When I was in school we had one valedictorian. One kid out of 500 with a 4.0. Nowadays there's a dozen or more. Are kids that much smarter now than 40 years ago? Not a chance.

What is sad is that these people know how poorly educated they are but don't care at all about it. I fully expect that within 10 years we will see commercial aircraft falling out of the sky because the wings failed. It's what happens when being politically correct is more important than actually producing good basic designs.

I've stopped counting.

What is sad is at the time my 80+ year old grandmother had to memorize and know facts about the USA for her US Citizenship. She could easily answer many of those questions that they asked those young adults. God Bless Smile

Years ago when Jay Leno was host of the Tonight Show, he did a skit called "Jay Walking", a man on the street on camera interviews of the general public.

It was a hoot.

This.
I am sure this is not typical of Gen Z’s, was edited, was related to nervousness, has methodologic flaws, etc. But that one of the persons with the poorest performance could so RAPIDLY name all five Kardashian sisters (I had no idea there were more than two much less their names) was very telling.

I remember when Jay Leno did these in the 90s. And we Gen-Xers looked dumb. 10 years ago Jesse Waters did it for Millennials/Hipsters. It is easy to interview a 100 or so people and then pick the 10-15 that are totally clueless and silly looking for your video. 52 States? We had a President claim to visit 57 on the campaign trail!

Still funny and scary at the same time.

Last weekend my wife was driving her 16 yr old niece and some of her friends to a birthday event . She was telling me some of the funny things she overheard . Not sure how the conversation started but she heard one of the girls say that she thought Afghanistan was in Canada .

I've been trying to hang around my 2 nephews (10 & 16) a little more. It is amazing how much they don't know that I was taught in 3rd through 7th grades, though there wouldn't have been a problem with any of the questions that were posed in the video. I've challenged them to learn more on their own outside of school. It's maddening that people such as those in the video exist and that they couldn't give 2 shits. The reality is that most folks now are too lazy to actually learn general stuff. People have become so reliant on "GOOGLING" and CNN type news so they don't have to waste the 1.25 brain cell they have.

Those of you who dismiss this as normal or some trick of selection, I hope you encounter these dimwits on a regular basis for years to come. You'll see. My generation is not this ignorant, but it's been a downhill slide for a long time now, and if you can't see that since the late 20th Century, each generation has become more coddled, spoiled and profoundly ignorant, then you need to be the ones dealing with these dolts. That seems fair to me.

Fifty-two stars on the flag? Utah is in Michigan??? No. Nope. Sorry. You cannot hang such utter disregard for basic facts on my generation. Nope. And I'm not saying that baby boomers don't have idiots amongst us. Of course we have them, but it's nothing- nothing like these drooling dimwits of today. These jackasses actually seem proud of their ignorance. It's all a big joke to them.

All of the institutions that protect education and morality have been destroyed in this country for the most part.

Every citizen in America watch this happened over the last 60+ years

I’ve stopped watching such videos so I won’t attempt to focus on the specific questions asked in this one, but I know enough about other specifics to have a pretty good understanding of the state of general education in this country.

If someone cannot name the dictator of Germany in World War II or name the major combatants during that conflict, what is the probability that they could begin to offer a coherent, informed discussion of, and especially an opinion about the reasons why the war occurred and what relevance those reasons might have for international events today? Yes, search for “dictator of Germany” and the answer is displayed in less than a second, but what does that answer do for anyone other than being able to not appear to be an ignoramus about that particular question.

Search for “causes of World War II” and answers will appear just as fast. But if not knowing what to make of the answer “Adolph Hitler” would be true of anyone who had to conduct an Internet search to answer the question, how more able would they be to make any sense of a two-page summary of the conflict? For someone who would have to ask who Hitler was, the summary would make as much sense to them as articles about protein synthesis in the science journal Nature make to me. “Appeasement? What’s that? A new kind of iPhone app? The Treaty of Versailles; I knew a girl from Missouri, and I think she mentioned that one time.”

There are plenty of things I look up on line. I use triangle solvers and calculators when using the Improved Rifleman’s Method of adjusting ballistic data when firing at long ranges and steep up or down angles. I don’t, however, use the Internet to explain what a triangle or even an angle cosine is. If I didn’t know those things to begin with, I couldn’t even start to solve such problems. Calculating whether differences in two shooting speeds or velocity figures are statistically significant is more trouble than it’s worth for most of my activities even with the Internet’s help, but at least I know that statistical significance is a thing—and can be an important one at that.

My point is that ignorance about some of the most simple of facts usually indicates even more ignorance (if that’s possible) about the complex issues that really do matter. Search for “Joseph Stalin” or “Mao Zedong” and a brief biography appears instantly. But even if the bios mention that they were among the greatest mass murderers in history, what does that tell anyone about the theory and practice of socialism and Communism?

Yes, ignorance of important matters does matter, and that’s a large reason for why we are where we are today, and part of the reason for why I am grateful for being much closer to the end of my life than the beginning. For the rest of you: good luck, because you will definitely need it.

I guess they don't teach such things in Third Grade anymore, huh? Too busy figuring out that a penis is really a vagina.
