He’s made a habit of “botching reports” the last couple years. Rush pointed out that this is also the guy who rushed to the cameras to tell the world that the Colorado theater shooter was a Tea Party member. He accessed some sort of roll for the Colorado Tea Party, found a guy with a similar name, and went with it. He had to retract that one too.

I remember that very well. As soon as the police released the shooter's name, Ross googled it and found the identical name on a Tea Party website. With no further verification he made that connection to a national television audience. He was sanctioned for that, maybe a month or so without pay IIRC, but was allowed to come back to work.

The cynical among us will say that he's just going to do the same kind of things wherever he goes, but he will not. It doesn't matter if the guy no longer has a moral compass or any integrity as a supposed journalist. No, he won't do the same kind of things because his behavior has really cost him, both in terms of his reputation and his employment status. I'm perfectly fine with him cooling his shit only because he fears the consequences, and nothing to do with integrity. I am perfectly fine with that. Come to think of it- in this instance, I prefer that he stays in line only for fear of the whip.

Opinion columnists can still make very good money if they get syndicated. And BR has the name recognition to do it, if he wanted. Of course, he'd have to totally come clean as a partisan hack, but we already know he is one. Don't be surprised if you see him get a column in the NYT editorial section or on Huffington Post.
