Oh stewardess, I speak jive. |
You know... retina burning, sun tan giving, shadows destroying, fuckery illuminating... big bright lights. Like something in the 2000+ lumens range, preferably running on 18650s, but some sort of big fuck-off bright light. Light up the whole cul de sac, or alleyway, or big room, or section of the woods, a big big bright light, any large size is fine. Suggestions? What's cool in 2021? A portable Q Beam destroyer? Bat Signal bright... Holy Shit bright... Burning Ants bright... big bright flashlight...

Not 2k lumens but ~1350 and 54k candela via a Modlite. They are powered by 18650 as well. If you are a first responder they provide a discount as well. For multi 18650, Thrunite TN42, Lumintop GT3, Lumintop GT90, Convoy 4X18A Single 18650, Convoy C8+, Klarus XT2CR Pro or XT11GT Pro I'd recommend something with an SFT-40 or Osram CULPM1 if you want throw and decent CRI. There's more options if you want to step up to a 21700.

I'm an absolute Nitecore fanboy now. And if you watch and register there, they totally do 25%/40% off throughout the year. I'm certain they will for black Friday. Their P20IX gets you 4000 lumens and 241 yards of throw. Fairly reasonable price when on sale. Nice size package. I had a Tiny Monster TM9k when I had my bear close encounter this summer. Face to face (I was sitting down) 4 feet away. And yes, she had two cubs with her. She still got my garbage and never attacked. And I guarantee she's still seeing a yellow dot in her focal point vision. 9000 lumens, surprisingly compact. Not a long distance thrower (293 yard), it's a bit broader beam. But as you've described lighting up the neighborhood. This does exactly that. Lights up a bear, and the cubs, and the trees, and the driveway, and the woods, and the neighbors house and and and... They have lots of other options. After the bear I also bought their Tiny Monster TM28 with 6000 lumens and an astonishing 716 yard throw. That's getting close to half a mile. Focused and bright way out to the end.

What are you going to say when you hear a noise some night and shine one of those powerful lights on your kid’s kitty cat and he goes up in a puff of smoke?

OK, I have to ask, what if I'm 242 yards away? Am I hidden? Just seems like a mighty precise number. Carry on.

Just be aware lumens makes your light bright at the source. Candela is your light's ability to project light onto something far away. For a handheld that fits into a pocket I love my Streamlight ProTac HL-X. It is a great combo of bright, durable and it throws really well. The heads a bit big if you want something slim. Also consider if you want a great hot spot to focus on someone or spill which helps you search as you pick up more in your peripheral vision. Here is a video with some good info and examples done by InRange and P&S. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPB8COBBxHE I do have to say I have one of those little Olight keychain lights that are always free around black friday and I use that thing all the time when unloading my truck in the boonies.

I doubt it's a "light up the whole neighborhood" flashlight, but it does look interesting. I like the form factor and the fact it uses replaceable, off-the-shelf, rechargeable and primary cell batteries, and has built-in charging capability. I'll have to look up video reviews to see what the spot/flood/spill looks like. Hahaha! So I wondered how the P20IX' 4000 lumens compared to my current best flashlight. I guess it's been a while since I've bought a new high-tech flashlight, because my LumaPower Signature is a whopping 265 lumens I know mine wasn't anywhere near the top-of-the-lumen-heap at the time, but still... Costco 2500 lumen flashlight was $20.99. It throws a coherent beam 100 yards. Nice is overrated "It's every freedom-loving individual's duty to lie to the government." Airsoftguy, June 29, 2018

My go to for lighting up the night is a Fenix WT50R https://www.candlepowerforums....x-3700-lumens.459764 The New Fenix WT50R Flashlight Checks All the Boxes This barely 8-inch handheld flashlight can pump out a maximum 3700 lumens. Think about that! With a maximum beam range of 1,394 feet, the WT50R falls into that perfect search light. Of course, other applications where a long-range beam is needed is law enforcement, security, safety, farming, industrial inspection, and then the guys who want to "one up" the others flashaholics. This powerhouse of a flashlight is USB type-C rechargeable and doubles as a power bank. Charging the 7.2V 5200mAh battery is effortless with the included USB type-C charging cable and power adapter. Battery level indicators located on the top portion of the searchlight let you see when you have reached a full charge or when charging is necessary. Added features include a standard tripod socket, single switch activation, and lockout function. One of the best characteristics of this new Fenix searchlight is a separately controlled headlight and tail light. You can tail stand the torch and activate the tail light for hands-free use with a max output of 500 lumens. If you need to search a large area or warehouse, you can hold the torch in your hand with the ergonomically designed handle. Other handling options include using the included shoulder strap. Years ago Sams Club had these Power on Board lights on closeout for stupid cheap, like $25. 9600 lumens! Uses a HID high beam out of a car! Will light up a tree line 400 yards away no problem, you can feel the heat from the bulb from 5'away. ------------------------------------- Always the pall bearer, never the corpse.

Years ago I got a replacement lamp for my police streamlite (4 Dcell) light from Malkoff lights….I just checked and they don’t offer that anymore. But when I first started using it, I could blind drivers from shining it into their rear view mirrors…literally they couldn’t see anymore due to the brightness….it worked exactly what I wanted. I used it at night on my front porch and I could see the trees 200 yards across the street and see it so brightly that trunk details and limbs were seen. IIRC it had about 1100 lumens, and would throw a clean white light out to 200 yards where you could clearly identify a suspects clothing and skin tone. Don't misunderstand me, I am NOT suggesting going cheap is good, because in most cases it isn't, but CAN you still go cheap for casting shadows in hell like you used to be able to ? I would like the option of lighting up the neighborhood if I had or wanted to, but could I do it (unreliably) on the cheap, notwithstanding shitty wavelengths and poor beam quality, other things being equal ?
