Yet another episode of
" A big downside of getting old is know what stuff used to cost"

Applebee's is advertising it.

I am the fastest guy here and I couldn't eat $10.00 worth of their food.

I can't imagine the size of portion it would take for that to be " a great deal"

Back in the 1900's we thought $8.00 was awesome. And a bargain.

Is the food at Applebee's absolutely spectacular?

Applebees is probably the best of the sit down fast food places.

About a decade ago TGI Fridays had a similar all you can eat appetizers deal. I think it was $10.

My then-stepson was a high school and college athlete with a super high metabolism, who would eat constantly and in large amounts.

He became a big fan of TGI Fridays.

That boy could eat so much in one sitting that they definitely lost money on him every time.

I’m a picky eater. But, like Mars said, Applebees does a pretty good job. Or at least they used to, I haven’t been in several years.

We use to stop off at the Mountain Gate Family Restaurant in Thurmont, MD when were working in the area. It was $12 for the buffet at the time...1990. One room had nothing but pies and cakes. Buses use to run from the DC area.

I can get the senior buffet at the local Golden Corral for around $10 and it's pretty good food with a large selection.

I vote for Chili's for that type of sitdown.

I hurt myself at Applebees last week with that deal. Went for the shrimp deal and decided to find out exactly how many I could eat. The answer was 37.

I’ll see your Applebee’s, and raise you a Shady Maple -

Shady Maple Smorgasbord, located in East Earl, Pennsylvania, is widely recognized as the largest buffet in the United States. It's known for its extensive selection of Pennsylvania Dutch cuisine, spanning over 200 feet.

Prices range from $14 - $30 depending on the time of day and food specials, such as Prime Rib night.

I dined there once as we (daughter's soccer team) were passing through coming home from a soccer tournament. The food was very good!

It would have been cool to take a walk-through of the kitchen to see the operation necessary to make the massive amounts of food (apps, meals, sides, desserts, etc.) required.

Would recommend as a one-time experience sort of thing, if you are in the area.

We were just there for my 8 year old son's birthday, he loves the breakfast there.

I made my usual (to start off) plate which I call a Breakfast Napoleon, LOL

In layers:

Buttered rye toast
Hash browns
Creamed chipped beef
Two over medium eggs cooked to order
Pork roll on top
A drizzle of ketchup

DELISH! Big Grin

Even if "just OK" it's still all you can eat. Quantity over quality.

While they have no "all you can eat" specials, I've found Cheddars Scratch Kitchens to be quite good. It's more than I can eat.

I stopped for lunch at an old favorite AYCE lunch buffet in Columbus Texas yesterday. I hadn’t been there in several years. The clever proprietor has altered the recipes to make it less likely people will go back for seconds. I couldn’t even tell what some of the stuff I ate was supposed to be. Confused

Are you saying $16 is too expensive? When a basic meal at a restaurant is $15, I think anything AYCE for the same price is a fair deal.

Sounds a little like the breakfast my girlfriend and I get about once a month at a local diner.

It's called the Early Bird.

In layers:
Three biscuits, split in halves
White pepper gravy
Hash browns
Sautéed diced onions, bell peppers, and tomatoes
Four fried chicken tenders
Three eggs over easy
Shredded cheddar cheese

(Then topped with hot sauce by me.)

It's like $13, and enough for both of us to get really full.

With two cups of coffee and the tip, it's $20. Pretty good these days for two people eating out.

I’m not, and couldn’t do “all you can eat” at a Michelin 5 star restaurant. No thanks. I like my metabolism working well and I don’t like having to use a whole roll of TP when I take a shit.

And Applebees is fine by me. To me it’s the modern Cheddars. I’m good with it, especially when they have the coupon.

What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone
