As smlsig pointed out above, the difference between a single rear wheel F350 and an F250 is overload springs in the rear. The F350 also has a taller spacer between the axle and springs in the rear an tire choice limited to better than 3,600 of load carrying an 80psi because the rear axle is rated for 7,200 lbs. It’s the same rear axle as the F250 otherwise.

I towed a 23' RV trailer for several years with 1/2 ton 4x4. It was barely adequate for the terrain of PNW per weight ratings. Finally tired of wind effects & turbulence of passing trucks. A decent 3/4 ton set up solved all that.

Good luck with your decision.

Long bed or short bed? How high are the bedrails and tailgate?

It will serve you well with your travel trailer. However, due to the factory lift and taller tires, you may have clearance problems between the top of the bed and bottom of the overhang of a 5th wheel should you decided to get a 5th wheel in the future. With the truck and trailer level, you want at least 6” between the top of the bed/tailgate and the 5th wheel’s overhang. You can adjust the kingpin box or hitch to get the clearance, but getting the trailer level will require lifting the trailer or lowering the truck. I lowered my truck.

Very good questions. Fortunately, I have a tongue pull so bed rail height is not an issue. I already have a nice equalizer hitch that I can adjust the height on so I should be able to tow on level plane. I like how 5th wheels tow but losing storage space is problematic for us. I doubt we will get one down the road. We may buy a lightly used Airstream as a more likely option down the road.

It has the short bed roughly 6' 1/2 feet.

^^^

It had an 8' bed which I didn't want. It also had 3" or 4" lift and bigger tires. He told I would probably want to get new tires maybe lower the lift for towing. The bed was the bigger issue.

6.6 gas about 4k under MSRP.

Great Choice. I got a Silverado 3500 crew cab with the 6.6 diesel back in the fall and it’s an absolute joy to tow with. I pull a 5,000 lb Air Tow trailer with an additional 5-8,000 in it fairly often and it does great with it.

Enjoy!

Great looking truck. My trips and towing needs aren’t long or heavy enough to justify a diesel.
I’m probably gonna go HD gasser for the next pickup also.
