Saw this video posted the other day by Double H Canine Academy. In addition to regular obedience training they also work with protection and service dogs.

Meet Ryker, who despite their best efforts will need to find a new line of work. Big Grin

Lol, some dogs just have a thing - in Ryker’s case it’s tennis balls!

Ryker, he looks like my two labs during the “throwing hour” in my backyard which corresponds with my happy hour. It is all ball or nothing for sixty minutes. My one reprieve is my refill period after 30 minutes.
Lucy made it into the pool tonight twice after errant throws.
Sweet Pea tore up some of the new rye lawn chasing a ball.

Funny, but I'm skeptical that was seriously a dog in training for service. I'm not a professional trainer, but think he'd have already mastered self-control, if he was capable of doing so, on much simpler tasks before they advanced to those kinds of challenges.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

I'm a cat person but I would make Ryker my roomate in a heartbeat. He might not be service dog material but his future owner is in for a treat (and a ride).
