We had a golden named Mac that was just like that. Mac was smart as a whip, but he had his own agenda. If what you tried to teach him went along with his agenda, 2 or 3 times at most and he had it. If however it did not go along with his agenda, you were just pissing in the wind. That dog would drive you nuts, but the most fun dog we ever had.
