I had a '72 Sedan Deville with the 472. In high idle it would do 35mph. Rode as smooth as glass. I'd love to have one like it again.

My dad had a 1971 Pontiac Catalina and it was big but not that big.

I had a couple of land yachts back in my college years. 1966 Chrysler 300 convertible with a 440 and a 1965 Lincoln Continental with suicide doors with a 430. Great cars.

That land yacht deserves a set of longhorn steer horns across front of hood...probably rides like floating on a cloud. ....... drill sgt.

My dad had a 1069 Olds 98 which was just as large as one of these Caddy's. 455 CUI, 10.75:1 V8 strangled by the exhaust system. Back then Ods took the exhaust from the drivers side of the engine from the front of the exhaust manifold and passed it across the front of the engine into the passenger side manifold. Then they took the exauste from the rear of the passenger side manifold and fed that to the back of the car with a 2 1/4 inch exhaust pipe and muffler. The car would start backfiring thru the carb at 95 mph. When I told Dad about this he didn't believe me. So we had a race between my VW Beetle and the 98 and I pulled away from him in the 98. He sold the car after 2 years. Good news is the 71 had a dual exhaust option and that one would do 130.

Feeding the beast might be a challenge as a daily driver.
I had a sequential collection of Caddys 47 thru 72. Nothing
is quite like a proper Caddy for actual road trips.

My first car in 1980 was my mother's hand me down 1975 Coupe Deville. Blue with a half vinyl roof. My father drove an Eldorado. You just brought back a flood of memories. I say go for it.

Definitely not crazy. Those mid 60s-mid 70s cars were very unique.

Had a 69 Caprese Classic that was loaded. Had vacuum type door locks and a thermostat on the dash for the automatic HVAC system. Came from a Great Uncle who was a Chevy dealer. Anyway, I think that thing got like 10 miles to the gallon on a good day.

When Car Talk was on (I miss it) they would play songs between the 3 halfs of the show. One of those songs is by David Wilcox. It's called Rusty Old American Dream. Good song but the best part is the start of the chorus, "I'm a tailfin road locomotive". That is the best term for Cadillacs of that vintage. In my eyes they are beautiful cars and I recall fondly all the times I was lucky enough to be a passenger.

I had a Girlfriend that drove a '69 Sedan DeVille...Gobs of 'torque' down low, she could really stoke that motor! I 'really' liked the ride in that car!

I really like the tire and wheel combination on that car. The wide whites with the chrome trim rings and center cap looks really nice. 19’, that’s just a full-sized pickup length. No personal experience with a car like that, but if it’s sound mechanically, I can see where it would be tempting.
