I'm not saying I'm funny w/ a gift for comedy. When I was younger, there were movies that I thought were funny. Vacation. Porky's. etc. Now, those same movies seem so stupid and juvenile to me. I can't watch them. I keep looking for movies that I'll enjoy and have a good laugh but I haven't been able to come across anything in months. I found Frasier funny as an adult but I've watched it too many times. Do you still find the old movies like Vacation funny? Have I just lost my sense of humor? Or have I just matured? But why can't I find anything enjoyably funny to watch anymore? I find myself just watching things like Castle, Endeavor, Morse over and over again. There are some funny Korean shows once in awhile. But mostly I'm famished for comedy. "Wrong does not cease to be wrong because the majority share in it." L.Tolstoy "A government is just a body of people, usually, notably, ungoverned." I have a couple of go-to movies for when I need a laugh: Blazing Saddles. A timeless classic before PC took the joy out of everything. DOWN Periscope with Kelsey Grammer. Never fails to leave me gasping for air with tears running down my cheeks. I haven't watched Airplane in a while, not sure what the effect would be now. For non-movie giggles, NOTHING beats Carol Burnett when Tim Conway and Harvey Korman get into it. Much of what passes for "modern" comedy leaves me cold. Deadpool got a couple of brief chuckles, but that was about it. EDIT: THAT SHOULD BE DOWN PERISCOPE. "Up Periscope" is a classic WWII sub movie. This message has been edited. I'll check out BS and UP; I may have seen BS before long time ago but can't remember. I'm pretty sure I've never seen UP (doesn't sound familiar at all). I don't think I'd like Airplane now although it was kinda funny when I was young. I don't know why it's now hard for me to find anything funny to watch. Is it me or is it normal? The thing is, comedy is mostly topical, a product of their times. What might have been funny in the 1970s may noy hold up today. Good comedy is timeless, transcending time and societal changes. Even though I have seen the episodes many times before, I can still laugh at certain I Love Lucy episodes, same with Seinfeld. Vacation may not seem funny to me anymore, but Animal House and It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World, they still have me laughing after all of these years. Eddie Murphy used to make me roll on the floor. I listen to that today and I may smile at Aunt Bunny and Charlie’s BBQ, but I can’t listen to a whole set. Just not my bag anymore. You’re a lying dog-faced pony soldier

Comedians - I liked Carlin and Jon Pinette. Both now gone. But movies and TV shows - hard to find something funny for me these days. And I've been trying. That too. Young Frankenstein will have both the wife and I in tears. "Put. The Candle. Back." Also, a few lines from Rumpelstiltskin. Wife and I are both prone to saying "Fucketh me" in suitable situations. BE AWARE: There are politically correct castrated versions of Blazing Saddles. You want the original. Let's be honest here. The ONLY reason us 17 year olds went to see Porky's wasn't for the comedy. ________________________________________________________ It is long past time for a Convention of States. Fart humor, bodily secretion humor, bad language humor - those age poorly. When you're young and new to that kind of stuff, it may be humorous, but it loses its appeal. Creative scripts, interesting situations, rapid fire interactions... those age well. Really good ones bear rewatching, even though plot-surprise is gone and you know how it's going to go, you can still get a kick out of seeing them again.

While there's a lot of comedy that I enjoy, my level of enjoyment has always been higher when watching with other people. Yes, I can laugh at Blazing Saddles while alone, but it is so much better when seen with others. I like Airplane! It's probably the actors themselves, but I can watch it every so often. Lover of the US Constitution Wile E. Coyote School of DIY Disaster

Sanford and Son still cracks me up 50 years later. (Favorite episode: "Lamont Goes African".) Its last season had Fred mellow out considerably, even getting along with Esther ... and was not as funny. That’s what actually kicked off this thread. I thought I enjoyed them when I was young. I recently watched previews thinking I might enjoy watching them again but I couldn’t take it. Instead of new, go even older. The writing and William Powell’s timing in the The Thin Man movie series always makes me laugh. -- I always prefer reality when I can figure out what it is. JALLEN 10/18/18 https://sigforum.com/eve/forum...610094844#7610094844
