More fear mongering senstionalism for the mass. This is a hospital-acquired infection, what's used to be called nosocomial infection. There are tons of different such in-hospital infections, and they tend to kill you because you are hospitalized, i.e., you are very sick in the first place. This is not something that spreads like wildfire and easily kills previously healthy people. Now, the fear mongering is not necessarily by the CDC, because they put out bulletins of this kind to the medical community all the time. It's the media that stir up the fear for the general population.

Most every place is filthy. The floors get mopped and restrooms cleaned up and scented. Handrails, doors, elevators, chairs, you name it, almost never get cleaned.

People would really be scared once they found out that there’s fecal matter on pretty much everything in existence.
