I’m trying to choose between a ford transit and a Denali for a family car.

I will get the Denali in white as anything else is too hot.

I will not get the transit in white. Big Grin

That is very true. I believe red is the most expensive color due to the amount of pigments.

US colors by popularity
1 White 25%
2 Black 22%
3 Gray 20%
4 Silver 14%
5 Blue 9%
6 Red 7.5%
7 Green 2%
8 Brown 0.9%
9 Orange 0.3%
10 Gold 0.1%
11 Purple 0.09%
12 Yellow 0.08%

We have gone to a small palette of colors for years.

People worry more about resale than the color they want, and manufacturers have responded.

Interestingly when I ordered my Civic there were 4 choices of color; black, red, gray and white with gray and white being "premium" color and $450 additional. To be fair though the white and gray have a subtle metallic.

No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

This would explain why trying to replace my 2021 Brown Outback was an impossible task. Such a shame too. It was sharp.

Straight shade white is usually cheap. Reds are more expensive but not always the most, new effect pigments in other colors are also expensive. And while white paint is cheap, applying pearl or tri coat effects adds extra process cost in the manufacturing.

White and black are the top 2 colors across the industry for the last decades. Followed by silver and gray. Reds, blues, greens, browns, etc all fight for that last 20%. There is a movement in the industry to reduce color offerings since the percentages never change much and extra colors get expensive to maintain and new colors take a lot of cost and development resources.

When I get back in my pretty, (extremely)dark gray metallic Subaru (last minute decision over white)
at 2 pm, after the end of long hot weather IDPA or Steel Challenge match, I ask myself
what kind of idiot Florida native buys a black car.

Blue, Mattel Matchbox Blue, and Richard’s grey metallic. No white. Loved all my Subarus.

First car I ever bought was white. It had blue pinstripes which I think white cars need “something”. White is a great car color (or lack thereof). I would consider white again.

Fixed it for you - "Why are so many Subaru owners white" Big Grin

My wife's Forester is silver. I don't think the dealer even had any white Subys (of any model) on the lot when we bought it.
