I’ve got a tire, a tree, and a rope. I’d like to combine it all for the kiddos…. The branch that will work is probably 15-18 feet of the ground abs out of reach even with a ladder. I can easily figure out a way to attach the rope from the ground, but is there a way to do it where I can later remove the rope without having to get to the branch?

Get a cord attached to a weight and throw it over the limb and then attach the rope to the cord and pull it over the limb.

Put an eye splice in one end of the rope and place the other end of the rope in the splice and pull it tight against the limb.

throw a rope over the limb, then attach both ends to a shackle, then another rope around the tire to the shackle, you can then either cut the rope, or remove the shackle to take the whole thing off

Bowline knot on both ends, easily removed by bending the loop. We used them to tie to ourselves for recovery from the sea.

You could actually make a small one on one end, toss it over the branch, run the end thru the bowline, pull it taut-attaching the rope to the branch. Then tie another one with the tire in the bowline and never have to climb a tree or ladder

I was trying to think of a way without the chance of the rope fraying from friction on the tree limb. Obviously, that would take a while, but with swinging weight, it'll eventually happen. To avoid that, I think you'd need ladder access to the limb.

Do it the way I put up antenna wires: Tie a pulley to the end of a rope and toss it over the branch. Run a second line through the pulley and pull both up to the branch. Tie off the pulley line to the tree (or an eye bolt screwed into the tree). Tie one end of the other rope on the tire and pull it up to desired height and anchor the other end to the tree or eye bolt.

That’s interesting… I need to see if there is a little crook in the branch that would help keep the pulley line in place so it doesn’t drift into the trunk of the tree.

For now I just tossed the rope over, attached the tire with a bowline, and then wrapped the other end around the trunk a couple times, reversed it on itself, wrapped a couple more times, and then tied it to itself.

Working great for now!the wrapping is about 7.5 feet up the trunk so it’s out of the way but easy for me to undo when needed.

The rope we used to use to swing into the river, IIRC, was fed through a length of garden hose around the section that contacted the tree. It wouldn't last forever, but was probably a lot easier for kids to rig up out in the woods than a pulley system.

Did not, I promise! They love it, so do the neighbor kids. My kids don’t have devices, actually, and in the past week they’ve watched exactly 1 movie, with my wife and I as part of our family movie night. Zero screen time other than that.

What they have done is play together, imagine, dream, trampoline, board games, bike, skate, yard work, home school work, piano lessons, tennis, harvested olives, collected eggs, explored some orchards, and ran in sprinklers. And now tire swung.

I know it can be depressing to look at the state of the world, my friend, and think all is lost. I also know you didn’t mean anything by it at all, and I’m not upset either, but I wanted to take a moment and encourage you, and anyone who might be feeling the same way from time to time. Some of us, a lot of us, are trying even still.

I was over thinking it. Once I tossed the rope over the tree and attached the tire I couldn’t think of a reason no to just tie it off to the trunk. Easy to do, easy to remove, out of casual reach of the kiddos. Easy solution.
