I'm bummed.

They embarrassed themselves in Trinidad with a 2-1 loss tonight.

Tonight they played tired and with out emotion for most of the match.

I like Pullisic.....

If I happen to watch any soccer, it's usually women's soccer. Unlike other sports, their action on the field is just as good as the mens, and they are much nicer to look at to boot.

It's not fair, they had to play Trinidad AND Tobago....I think they could have taken either one separately, but together???

NFL employees keep up their political antics, soccer in the US might improve, for men.

I've always felt the U.S. sent the wrong soccer team to the World Cup. The U.S. ladies probably would qualify for both the men's and women's WC. Smile

It only stands to reason that where there's sacrifice, there's someone collecting the sacrificial offerings. Where there's service, there is someone being served. The man who speaks to you of sacrifice is speaking of slaves and masters, and intends to be the master.

That sucked.

Having said that, I was unable to watch. In a country where I get tons of sports through my cable provider (yes all of them) it was not on my channel lineup.

OK - let's just stream it from the net. Nope. Not happening.

Seriously - no broadcast available. Major butt hurt first world problem!?

Or is this a sign of soccer in the US?

That's a tired excuse from 20 years ago.

Our players are physically the same as other top players around the world. The difference is the level of instruction, the effectiveness in scouting and the ability to cultivate a talent pipeline. The pay-to-play bullshit in this country has to go. There's more to it than that but, when European soccer clubs are starting to set-up club teams in the US to mine our young players...there's a problem.

It sucks but hopefully a ton of people will get shit canned and the team will be stronger next time. It's a hell of an embarrassment, maybe some good will come from it. I typically root for Germany anyway.

Put our baseball, "foot"ball or basketball best talent up against that of anywhere else in the world and we know what happens. Even in ice hockey, which is "Canada's sport," we compete well against Canada and Russia. Everybody else is pretty much an also-ran.

We simply don't have the national heart in the game most other countries do. That's slowly changing, but it will take a while.

Too bad about the poor showing, this time around Frown

What happens?
In international and Olympic baseball competition, Cuba, Taiwan, and Japan have all regularly done better than the US, especially Cuba. In hockey for the last 20 years, the US has never been ranked above 3rd in the world. The US hockey team, while competitive, is never expected to win an Olympic gold medal. Those expectations are reserved for Canada, Russia, and some Nordic nations. American football, no other country plays that game, so why even consider that. Basketball is the sport that the US truly dominates in. The top twenty college basketball teams could probabaly beat most other international teams on any given day.
The US approach to developing soccer players is a loser and the US will not improve internationally until that changes. The "pay to play" system that the US uses leave a ton of available talent undeveloped and off the field. The system works for the women now because most other countries don't care about women's soccer. That's changing and the American dominance in women's soccer is waning. Until the system is changed, the US men's team will be weak in international soccer.
